Bane Stones are magical artifacts that feature in Ga-Rei.

History

In the modern age, Kazuhiro Mitogawa was given a shard of pure Bane Stone that was intended to be transported from the Vatican to Japan but instead used them to make himself into a malevolent spirit where he intended to resurrect his mother. He began searching for worthy hosts to such stones and to be their wielders with such individuals being those that had intense feelings of hatred. During his time in Japan, his stone would appear as a singularity on spirit energy sensors and its power attracted the presence of numerous phantoms that targeted the civilian population. He would witness the actions of the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division in combating these spirits and was responsible for killing Kagura Tsuchimiya's mother. Afterwards, he would kill Mei Isayama as he sensed dark emotions of envy and ambition within her with this hatred making her a potential worthy host for the Bane Stone. Following her death, her life was returned to her by the Bane Stone where her jealously of Yomi Isayama saw her secretly killing Naraku Isayama thus usurping the family from Yomi who was his intended heir. Eventually, Mei would bring Yomi to a set site where she intended to kill her and revealed the truth of her adopted father's death. During the confrontation, Yomi learnt of Mei's true nature and killed her for the death of Naraku. When departing the scene, she encountered Kazuhiro Mitogawa who crippled her body as he saw hatred within her making her an excellent wielder for the Bane Stone and a better host compared to Mei. Whilst crippled, Yomi was left in the hospital where she was believed to had murdered Mei without knowing the truth of Naraku's death and as a result her status as head of the Isayama was removed whilst her engagement to Noriyuki Izuna was broken as a result. In despair, her hatred ignited and Mitogawa approached her where he healed her body with the stone thus transforming her into its new host as well as becoming a malevolent spirit.
