History
Ages ago as part of its history, the Elder Gods made sorcerers toil for them by linking the realms through portals connecting to the Nexus. However, the lower planes of the Netherrealm were hazardrous to magic users and magical beings. Thus, to continue to work, the sorcerors established Soul Stones which were obelisks that channeled magic thus replenishing users with their power.
Overview
It was said that one cannot enter the Netherrealm without having a taint of evil in their heart and that continued existence within the realm begins to corrupt travellers.
A number of races inhabited Netherrealm that included:
- Undead :
- Oni :
- Demons :
- Wraiths :
A number of places in this realm included:
- Nekros - the capital city of the realm.
- Netherrealm Cliffs - this mountain stood over a sea of lava and had numerous meteors impact its surface.
- Prison of Souls - this was a prison guarded by the Keepers where the lost and the damned were imprisoned.
- Sea of Immortality - this was a sea located near the Prison of Souls.
- Shinnok's Spire - this was a large tower where the fallen Elder God Shinnok resided and had his throne where he ruled over the realm.
Among the realms, the Netherrealm was one of the few that was infinite in size.
