History
Origin
Many of their members were from nations conquered by the Nazi's with them seeing their loved ones murdered that hardened their resolve. Whilst operating, they developed a bad reputation to people on the European continent with them being regarded as air pirates and assassins. This was because few were aware of the origins or objectives of the group thus thinking they were mercenaries. (Military Comics v1 #2)

- The Blackhawk Squadron were created by Chuck Cuidera, Bob Powell and Will Eisner where the made their first appearance in Military Comics v1 #1 (August, 1941) for Quality Comics.

- In Arrow, the Blackhawks featured as a private security group called Blackhawk Squad Protection Group who appeared in the episode "Trust But Verify". One of their employees was Theodore Gaynor who was a former commanding officer of John Diggle when the two served in the military at Afghanistan. Gaynor and other Blackhawk employees were operating in secret where they staged robberies of numerous trucks that were carrying money. These robberies made use of a swarming technique that Gaynor had developed in Afghanistan and attracted the attention of the Vigilante.
