Japanese animated series that combined elements of classic "giant robot" anime with the film noir-esque aspects of Batman: The Animated Series. It was more popular in the U.S. (after its airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami block) than it had been in Japan. In an unprecedented series of events, American demand led to the production of a second season. A manga has been based on the show, but it developed into its own continuity.
