With the on-going War of Kings, the fabric of reality faced destruction with the conflict between the Kree and Shi'ar. Thus, it was decided that the Guardians were to be divided into two teams with Star-Lord going to help bring peace from the Kree whilst Rocket led the second team doing the same in Shi'ar space.
