History

Bioroids were large humanoid mecha that were constructed by the technologically advanced civilization known as the Robotech Masters.

In desperation, the Masters sought to acquire the Protoculture Matrix themselves after the Zentraedi failed. Their journey was slow due to depleted energy reserves leading to a trek that took 15 long years. Upon arriving, several troop carriers were deployed to the surface that were attacked by the Army of the Southern Cross leading to the deployment of Bioroids against the United Earth Government forces. This was the start of the conflict that brought about the Second Robotech War.

A damaged Bioroid was studied at the Robotech Research Group where scientists learnt that the pilot was not a miniaturised but rather a human-like being.

As the war continued, the Robotech Masters began to look to deploy new improved versions of Bioroids for use against the Earth forces. This led to the completion of the Invid Fighter that were said to epitomise the triumvirate and were considered the perfect warriors. Members of the 15th Alpha Tactical Armored Corps were amongst the first soldiers of the Army of the Southern Cross that encountered the Invid Fighter.

Overview

In appearance, these mecha were humanoid in shape with arms and legs with no in-built weapons. The Bioroids were piloted by the cloned warriors of the Tirolian people who sat within a sphere shaped cockpit that lies within the chest of the unit. Control of the unit was accomplished through telepathic recievers implanted into the pilots body allowing the warrior to move his unit with a single thought. This made them incredibly fast and very adaptive in combat as they could function even if they were damaged; so long as the cockpit and the pilot remained intact.

They possessed no built in weapons but make use of weapon drums in combat that fired energy blasts that could obliterate enemy units in a single shot. When called in combat operations, they make use of anti-gravity hover sleds that possessed twin blasters allowing them to engage enemy fighters and perform strafing runs. They could also disembark these sleds and engage in urban operations; calling the sleds when they needed to retreat.

Models of Bioroids included:

  • Bioroid Soldier : the Blue Bioroid was the standard mecha used within the armies of the Robotech Masters.
  • Bioroid Armored Fighter : the 'Invid Fighter' was the pinnacle of mecha developed by the Robotech Masters with them being piloted by clone triumvirates with their respective machines. Their triumvirate allowed them to tightly coordinate their actions under a single mind. These war machines were developed primarily to fight off the Invid swarms but were effective against other enemies as well. An armored energy sensor at the head was a noted vulnerability in the design with a direct hit capable of destroying the unit.
  • Bioroid Subcommander : the Green Bioroid was superior to the standard soldier with greater speed and armor with them being mecha reserved for unit commanders. On certain occasions, they could be piloted by complex bio-androids that could be remotely controlled by the Robotech Masters.
  • Bioroid Commander : the Red Bioroids were rarely encountered within the Robotech Masters armies with them possessing superior speed and armour compared to the other models. These mecha were reserved for senior commanders who operated in a supervisory role to other Bioroid units on the field.

The Bioroids operations were linked to command input generated from assault carriers that provide aeriel support in battle. Damaging such ships could force Bioroids to retreat.
