History
The Morlocks
An aggressive tribe of Morlocks led by Carver began to wage a war against the Moloids that lived further underground. At the same time, one of their number who was a mindless feral Morlock named Fugue started killing people from the surface. This attracted the attention of the N.Y.P.D., Wolverine and Spider-Man who sought to stop the murders. After mistakenly believing the perpetrators to be the Moloids, the Mole Man emerged and revealed the true culprits. This led to Wolverine challenging their leader Carver to a trial by combat where a collapse led to both him along with Fugue falling into an underground fiery chasm. (Wolverine v2 #157)
After M-Day, many of the Morlocks lost their powers and shattered their place in the world as their abilities were the only thing that they had with them. During this period, Qwerty saw the upcoming and wrote a book of events in the future before she died. In the aftermath, the Morlocks broke into factions with one group forming a religious cult that built a haven that was called Lindisfarne that was the sanctuary of the New Dream. (Uncanny X-Men v1 #490)
During the M-Pox incident, these underground dwelling Mutants had reformed under Callisto's leadership and were joined by Human from the surface with the two living in peaceful co-existence as the New Morlocks. Around this time, the parasitic Mutant known as Emplate had been secretly infecting a number of the Mutant Morlocks and turning them more into his kind. (Uncanny X-Men v4 #7)
