With his suit, he attacked a building in order to rob from a safe where he used his vibro-smashers to break it in order to steal the money inside. It was then that he was confronted by Spider-Man who was attracted to the scene by the attack. This led to a fight between the pair but the Wall-Crawler was defeated by Shockers abilities. Later on, the Purple Man looked to establish a secret criminal empire in New York City where he started a venture called Villains For Hire. This saw him operating as control as he directed a team of hired supervillains with Shocker being among their ranks. (Villains for Hire v1 #1)
