Biography

Shōta Aizawa (相あい澤ざわ消しょう太た Aizawa Shōta?) was a male human born in the modern age following the rise of Quirks in the planetary population.

During his adolescent years, he attended U.A. High School where he met Hizashi Yamada and Oboro Shirakumo where the three became close friends and would end up being called 'the three dumbigos of Class A'. One day, they came to pick hero names for themselves though Shota was unable to decide one for himself with Hizashi suggesting 'Eraser Head'. In his second year, he began to have doubts about his ability to become a hero where he felt unable to save a kitten that he found abandoned on a rainy day when he was on his way to U.A. The only thing he could do for the animal was leave his umbrella to offer it shelter as he continued towards his school. Once in his classroom, his friend Hizashi came to notice his low mood and went about trying to cheer him up though did not have much success. Suddenly, Oboro arrives through the homeroom class window, using a Cloud he created with his Quirk, making jokes about Shota and Hizashi and interrupting roll call, being admonished by the teacher. Oboro was another classmate with whom Shota maintained a good relationship. Oboro gives back Shota's umbrella, and when he is about to ask him if anything was underneath, Oboro pulled out a cat he rescued earlier from the rain, which is met with adoration from his classmates. Shota realized that it's the same kitten he left under his umbrella. After finishing the roll call, the homeroom teacher reminded the students soon to participate in the Hero Work-Studies, putting special emphasis on Shota, Oboro, and Hizashi since none of them have been assigned to an agency as of yet. After this, the whole of Class 2-A did joint practical exercises with Class 2-B. In one of the exercises, Shota had problems with another student named Sensoji, who ridicules him for his uselessness and weak Quirk, before being separated by the teacher. The homeroom teacher knows that Shota has these problems because he was still uncertain about his future as a hero.

Later, on one of the rooftops of U.A., Shota talked with Oboro and Hizashi about his personal doubts. Oboro advised him to specialize in the battler route because he believes that Shota's Erasure can be very useful in a fight. Shota doubts his partner's statements, although the conversation changes radically when he sees that Oboro feeds the kitten with human food. Then he reminds Oboro and Hizashi that bringing animals to school is against the rules. At that moment, the third-year student Nemuri Kayama appeared, joining their conversation, and ends up adopting the kitten. The next day, Shota and Oboro talked about how Hizashi finally got assigned to an agency. Nemuri appeared again and informed them that her boss, His Purple Highness, was willing to accept them in his agency. Shota and Oboro accepted their offer, and thus, began their Work-Studies at Purple Revolution Agency, with Nemuri and His Purple Highness. One day, while patrolling, Shota tried to stop a villain who has just made a robbery, but the criminal has a Quirk that allows him to generate smoke, and he used it against Shota, blinding him and preventing him from using his Erasure on him. His Purple Highness came to Shota's aid before he could get hurt, but the villain managed to escape. His Purple Highness criticized Shota, not for not stopping the villain, but for acting like a hero with a gloomy face. Mr. Purple advised him that if he wants to be a hero, he must inspire confidence, and for that, he must trust his own power and smile. Back to the Purple Revolution Agency, Shota reflected on Mr. Purple's words. It was good advice, but it is impossible for him to smile if he does not do his job well as a hero, to which his friend Oboro reassured him just to keep smiling even if you screw up. Then, when they talked about what would he do against the Villain if he encounters him again, Oboro came up with the idea of lending Shota his goggles to protect his eyes from the villain's smoke.

He came to operate as an underground pro-hero who went by the name of Eraser Head (イレイザー・ヘッド Ireizā Heddo?).

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Aizawa was a slender tall man who stood at 183 cm where he had messy shoulder-length, black hair, black stubble on his cheeks, chin and upper lip, and half-closed, black eyes. His hero costume consists of a worn out, black jumpsuit that he tucks into his mid-shin, black boots, a utility belt, and his light grey weapon wrapped around his neck like a scarf that hides his yellow goggles under it. He often appears in a yellow sleeping bag that he naps in sometimes in the middle of class. Since he is an underground hero, his appearance is not well-known to the public, but he is recognized by his worn-out, black hero costume, his bandage-like weapon, and his yellow goggles. After the USJ attack, he taught his class while his face was bandaged only showing his eyes and a bit of his nose, and both his arms were bandaged and in slings. When his bandages were finally removed, a crescent scar was revealed under his right eye. As a Pro-Hero, he came to operate under the hero name Eraserhead (イレイザーヘッド, Ireizā Heddo).

Driven by logic, Aizawa tended to be a cold, apathetic, and impatient individual who exerted very little energy in most situations. Instead, he had a preference towards taking naps in his sleeping bag instead.

On the surface, he was a very stern and reserved person who had lofty expectations of his students. As a teacher, he liked to use rational thinking to avoid wasting time. A very stern and reserved man, he had lofty expectations of his students. He tended to give his students enough space for them to make their own decisions. However, Aizawa had little tolerance for disobedient behaviour. Moreover, he was known to expel students he deemed unworthy for not having enough potential to be heroes. However, this high expulsion rate was only on paper and that he actually re-enrolled any students he 'expelled'. Shota did this so they could experience 'death' once as this gave them an experience that drove them to push even higher.

Despite his apathetic traits, Shota genuinely cared about his students and would go to great lengths to protect them.

Powers and abilities

He had keen observation and evaluation skills that allowed him to easily evaluate his student's personalities and their mental state.

Shota Aizawa was a human who gained a Quirk (個こ性せい Kosei?, lit. "Individuality") that was a superpower which in his case manifested in the ability Erasure (Kanji: 抹消 Romaji: Masshō). This power allowed him to nullify another person's Quirk by looking at the user. When Aizawa used his Quirk, his hair flew vertically in the air and his eyes turned red until he blinked whereupon his hair and eyes returned back to normal. As a pro-hero, his fighting style fixed on detaining after erasing the opponent's Quirk.

This combined with his incredible combat prowess and ingenuity made him one of the most formidable teachers and Pro Heroes at U.A. High. His usual battle tactic consisted of cancelling an opponent's Quirk and then using his Capturing Weapon in conjunction with his high agility to easily defeat or restrain his adversaries.

His Quirk was not suited for long fights nor against a large group. However, Aizawa balanced that by wearing goggles which hid his line of sight to make it harder for opponents to know whose Quirk he was erasing thus rendering it difficult for them to work together. He also carried with him a small green case of eye drops which he used to treat the dry eye caused by keeping his eyes open too long.

To capture villains, he used a special-made, bandage-like weapon made of a steel wire alloy woven with carbon nanofibres. This became the basis for his own unique style of fighting that was called Binding Cloth (操そう縛ばく布ふ Sōbakufu?).
