Biography
Hera Syndulla was a female Twi'lek who was born on her homeworld of Ryloth where she was the daughter of Cham Syndulla and Eleni Syndulla with her being a child during the time of the Clone Wars. Her father was notable for being a revolutionary who had fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During that time, her mother kept her safe by hiding them below ground but as a young girl Hera came to see the Galactic Republic which flew over Ryloth to help liberate the planet. Looking up at the ships, she came to decide to be a pilot on day with this prompting her to leave her home and family one day in order to pursue her love of flying. During that time, she came to hear stories about the purrgil that were large space dwelling creatures that were said to had inspired people to develop hyperdrives. As she grew older, her views about the creatures changed as she started to see them as a menace as they endangered hyperspace travel as they could crash into ships. This view only magnified when she began o work as a pilot and she lost more than one friend to a collision with a purrgil.
At the Battle of Ryloth, a BTL Y-wing starfighter crashed near her home with Hera investigating the site. She found the pilot to had died but managed to recover an old astromech droid from the fighter with this being C1-10P.
After the Clone Wars ended, the Republic came to be re-organised into the first Galactic Empire under the reign of Palpatine. This saw Ryloth being freed from Separatist threat and transitioning to Imperial rule with Cham Syndulla working with the Twi'lek senator in order to rebuild their world. However, many Twi'leks were uneasy over the Empire and their presence on their world with the young Hera hearing these voices from her uncle and mother. Her father was ready to lay down his weapons and live in peace, but many other Twi'leks, such as her father's friend Gobi Glie, did not trust the Empire. Hera, along with Chopper, decided to aid her "Uncle" Gobi in spying on a new Imperial refinery. However, her dreams of flight led her to be caught by the clone troopers and she was taken home by Captain Howzer, who declined to report the incident. Hera was scolded by her father, but her mother was more sympathetic to Gobi's misgivings about the Empire. That night, Gobi talked Hera into accompanying him to make a supply run by allowing her to pilot the ship. They rendezvoused on one of Ryloth's moons with a squad of former clone commandos who were clandestinely delivering weapons to Gobi. As the adults discussed business, Hera befriended Omega, a younger girl who was part of the team. Omega showed Hera the inside of their shuttle until the deal was concluded. Before they parted ways, Omega gave Hera the squad's comm frequency. On the way back, their ship was shot down by an Imperial sharpshooter CT-9904 "Crosshair" who had planted a tracking device on the ship. They were captured by Vice Admiral Edmon Rampart and Senator Orn Free Taa, who was still jealous of her father's influence on the people of Ryloth. Taa insisted that all of them, including Hera, be imprisoned without trial. But as the Juggernaut was returning, it was attacked by Cham and Eleni, determined to rescue their daughter. After the fight, Eleni placed Hera in a speeder piloted by Chopper. But Rampart had CT-9904 shoot Taa in order to frame Cham and had additional troopers ready to capture them.
