The Man-Beast was one of the [[New Men (Marvel)|New Men]] that was created by the experiments of the [[High Evolutionary]]. Originally, he was but a normal wolf that was the first taken by the High Evolutionary to his laboratory at [[Wundagore]]. He was to be the first wolf to be uplifted in this manner but a distraction led to the machinery transforming the specimen further along the evolutionary ladder. (Thor v1 #135)

This was all a part of a scheme to draw the High Evolutionary back to Earth so that he could confront his father. Part of his plot was to remove the High Evolutionary's armor and equip it to himself to amplify his own powers to that of a god. During a battle with his father, he managed to defeat the High Evolutionary and had removed his armor with his creator transforming into energy. This led to the Man-Beast believing that such a path lay for him as well and wore the armor with him confronting those New Men that opposed him who had chosen Kitty Pryde as their champion. The Man-Beast was wounded and stripped from his armor by Wolverine who had flown into a rage making him immune to the villains mindblast causing him to retreat to re-evaluate his plans. Biography

The Man-Beast was one of the New Men that was created by the experiments of the High Evolutionary.
