History
From those infected mothers, their unborn children were affected by the Gastrea Virus and these became the Cursed Children.
Overview
In appearance, the Gastrea hold a variety of forms such as; four legged hound-like creatures, larger spider-like creatures, tank sized four legged beasts, insectile winged versions and massive entities that dwarfed skyscrapers. Their ranks actually consisted of animals or humans that had been infected with the Gastrea virus that mutated their hosts and gave them superhuman abilities.
They were divided into a number of stages that included:
- Stage 1 : these were the weakest of their kind that only had one ability and were easily dispatched by teams of Promoters and their Initiators.
- Stage 2 : these more evolved Gastrea had more than one ability such as their monstrous form combined with the ability to fly.
- Stage 3 : much stronger than the previous stages.
- Stage 4 : an even stronger breed of Gastrea with even more powerful abilities.
- Stage 5 : these were amongst the most powerful of their kind that were able to ignore the effects of the Monoliths allowing them to enter areas protected by those towers.
Known Gastrea
- Aldebaran : a large Stage 4 that had the ability to secrete acids that could destroy imperfect Monoliths and utilized pheromones to control swarms of Gastrea under its command along with an enhanced rapid regeneration factor.
