The Green Arrow was then approached by a millionaire named Hector Vance who wanted to learn archery. The man offered a million dollars to be donated to a charity for these lessons with the Emerald Archer accepting the offer. Thus, he trained Vance and even taught him the secrets behind the Trick Arrows. However, Vance was secretly the former kingpin racketeer Herb Vraney who used these skills to become the masked criminal Crimson Archer and used his new skills as part of his revenge against the Green Arrow for sending him to prison. Overview
There were numerous types of Trick Arrows that included:
- Net Arrow : fired a net created of a strong fine silk that was rolled into the shaft of the arrow. Once fired, a mechanism was then triggered that released the net. (Adventure Comics v1 #259)
- Balloon Arrow : the shaft contained a rubberised fabric along with a capsule of compressed air that expanded upon release thus forming a balloon which could be used to send messages or attract attention. (Adventure Comics v1 #259)
- Rain Arrow : a shaft that released water when the mechanism was triggered and could be used to extinguish small fires. (Adventure Comics v1 #259)
- Smoke Arrow : used to create a smokescreen. (Adventure Comics v1 #259)
- Sun Arrow : illuminating gases were present within the shaft that when triggered caused a brilliant brilliance in the area. (Adventure Comics v1 #259)
