History
Angels (使徒, shito) were powerful beings that were the children of one of the Seeds of Life (生命の種, Seimei no Tane) that were artificial beings created by the First Ancestral Race to spread life onto planets throughout the Milky Way. Billions of years ago, one such Seed of Life contained Adam (katakana: アダム; Hebrew: בראשית ,אדם i:xxvi) who was sent to populate the planet Earth where he was transported to that world on the White Moon.
This resulted in the dispersal of Adam’s children (アダムの子供達, Adamu no kodomotachi) across the planet.
In response, the organisation known as NERV was founded with the purpose of fighting back against the Angels using a series of advanced mecha known as the Evangelions.
