Origin

Zachary Gate was a male human born in the modern age where he was a descendant of the Gates family who were a family of architects that came to Gotham City. (Batman: The Gates of Gotham v1 #5)

With Elliot as his captive, the Architect then had him placed at Wayne Tower where he made a modified dead man's switch that activated a timer alongside similar bombs through the city. Despite the efforts of the Bat Family, they were unable to stop the bombs from detonating though they managed to succeed in saving bystanders with this including Tommy Elliot. Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.
