Clover Kingdom

Clover Kingdom is a kingdom that features in Black Clover.

History

The Clover Kingdom (Japanese: クローバー王国, Hepburn: Kurōbā Ōkoku) was a human kingdom that was established in the world. Long ago, in the areas that became the Forsaken Region of the Clover Kingdom, there existed a race of beings known as the Elf Tribe (エルフ族 Erufu-zoku). They were met and befriended by humans until mankind seemingly turned on the elves and slaughtered them after learning the arts of magic from them. This resulted in the elves summoning a powerful demon to destroy their foes but the creature was defeated by the first Magic Emperor. In the aftermath, human history wrote that the elves were a wicked race of beings that had preyed on mankind and removed all trace of their true history.

In time, the Eye of the Midnight Sun came to be formed who sought the destruction of the kingdom.

From the outskirts of the kingdom, the mage Rades Spirito launched an attack on the Royal Capital. This saw him unleashing an army of corpses on the city which began attack the civilians when several guards arrive to defend them. Unfortunately, their attacks are unable to stop the corpse's advances as Rades laughs at their uselessness. Upon the announcement of the Royal Capital's invasion, at the Magic Knights headquarters, Siren of the Golden Dawn quickly activates one of his spells to observe the city's condition. The spell is of such a high level that both Klaus and Mimosa are amazed by their senior's prowess. Subsequently, the Knights begin to discuss their strategy for counterattacks. Fuegoleon assumes that the perpetrator managed to bypass the barrier of the city with the use of Spatial Magic spell, which prompts him to acknowledge their enemy's prowess. As they begin to discuss the best way to apprehend the situation, Asta interrupts them and asks his fellow Knights to take immediate action. The young Knight then storms out of the hall and plans to find the perpetrator at the noisiest place of the city, which stuns Klaus who tried to stop him. Seeing his new rival's reckless action, Leopold quickly follows him without consulting his older brother. Fuegoleon goes to the North district to meet with Leopold while he takes Noelle along with him. The Crimson Lion captain then asks the Silver Eagle Knights to the Central district, the Blue Rose Knights to East district and the Golden Dawn Knights to the West and Northwest district. As the Knights leave, Charmy comes out of her hiding place and decides to take part in defending the city. However, she suddenly catches a delicious smell and quickly tries to trace it back to the source. In the meantime, Rades finds a little girl who is cornered without anyone to defend her. The rogue mage quickly intimidates her and plans to kill her. However, before he is able to harm the said girl, Asta forcefully made his path to Rades and vowed to protect the Royal Capital. Rades immediately recognizes the boy as a Black Bull member and orders his fallen corpses to attack him. To his surprise, none of the corpses harkens to his command, which prompts the rogue mage to assume that Asta is the wielder of Anti Magic. Due to this, Rades calls forward a new batch of corpses to attack the Black Bull mage. Somewhere else within the Royal Capital, the other Knights finally arrive at their designated venues. The moment they learn that their enemies are a group of corpses, the Knights proceed on decimating them without mercy. Subsequently, Mimosa also begins to heal any casualties of the attack. Similarly, Asta is also easily able to apprehend the corpses, which astounds Leopold who watches him from afar. The Black Bull Knight then charges towards Rades for an attack, but the latter summon another corpse, which is able to shoot bullets of magical power. Asta narrowly manages to avoid the attack before Rades introduces him to the corpse, "Jimmy."

The kingdom's territory was then attacked by the neighbouring Diamond Kingdom who struck at the border town of Kiten (キテン) with three of their Eight Shining Generals attacking the settlement. Their onslaught was defeated by the arrival of members of the Golden Dawn along with some aid from the Black Bulls. Together, the two Magic Knight squads defeated the Diamond Kingdom with several of the attackers being captured in the process.

After uncovering the Eye of the Midnight Sun's headquarters, the King looked to assemble an elite force known as the Royal Knights (王撰騎士団ロイヤルナイツ Roiyaru Naitsu) that were selected from the best of the Magic Knight squads. Once assembled, they were sent to attack the enemy's headquarters in a coordinated assault and were led by Mereoleona Vermillion. Unknown to them, the Eye of the Midnight Sun had initiated their own plans where they sent some of their members to recover the magic stones within the possession of the Black Bulls. Meanwhile, their leader Licht in his alternate guise of William Vangeance confronted the Magic Emperor and attacked him to claim the remaining stones in his hands. Licht was unable to defeat his foe until he used a powerful spell against the entire kingdom that would have killed most of its citizens. To counter, the Magic Emperor unleashed the entirety of his magic to stop the attack but this left him vulnerable to Licht who dealt him a fatal blow. After taking the magic stones from him, Licht then enacted his plans which were to resurrect the Elf tribe whose souls resided in various humans with these taking possession of their bodies. The Elves then began to attack the humans leaving the Clover Kingdom in ruin as they sought revenge for their deaths by the humans.

Ultimately, it was discovered by the Magic Knights that the true mastermind behind the attack on the capital was done by one of the Devils. With its destruction, the majority of the Elf tribe's souls departed for the afterlife leading to their possession of their human hosts coming to an end. This ended the conflict and during the midst of this event the anti-monarchist faction attempted to kill the King. The attempt was thwarted by the Chairman of the Magic Parliament who decided to convene a meeting of the judiciary to decide on the responsibility for the attack on the capital. To achieve that end, they summoned Asta and Secre to the Parlaiment but the Chairman was not after finding a scapegoat for the devastation with him intending to punish the Magic Knights for the attack.

Overview

In appearance, the Clover Kingdom was a human nation that was established in a mountainous region of the world. It was divided into several regions with these including the Noble Region, the Common Region and the Forsaken Region. In the Royal Capital was the Clover Castle (クローバー城 Kurōbā-jō) that was the residence of the Clover Kingdom's three royal families.

Between the Clover and Diamond Kingdoms was a region known as the Witches Forest. Another location situated off the eastern coast of the kingdom was home to the Underwater Temple.

The image of the clover was said to represent the three tenets of the kingdom namely 'good faith', 'hope' and 'love'. Despite this belief, it was noted that there was a great deal of imbalance in the society within its land as they did not always represent these qualities. A nobility existed that considered itself superior to the common people and even treated them cruelly. Children of the Clover Kingdom were told stories that the Elf Tribe were a wicked race of demons who wanted to control the world. They were taught that these beings sought to control all the mana but were defeated by the first Magic Emperor.

Leadership of the land was held by an individual who was the King. The elite warriors of the kingdom was the Order of the Magic Knights consisted typically of magic users who were tasked with its protection. Heading the group was an individual who had the title of Magic Emperor (魔法帝 Mahōtei) that served the King. An elite force of Magic Knights were selected to join the Royal Knights (王撰騎士団ロイヤルナイツ Roiyaru Naitsu) who consisted of the strongest and most skilled fighters.

Those of royal descent were referred to as Royals (王族 Ōzoku) and belonged to a number of families. Among the nobles, some of the prominent houses included:

• House Silva (シルヴァ家 Shiruva-ke) : a royal family whose symbol was the cross flory fitchy and lived in the Silva Estate of Clover Castle. They were noted for having a history with the elves and Anti Magic Weapons.
• House Vermillion (ヴァーミリオン家 Vāmirion-ke) : a royal family that lived in the Vermillion Estate of Clover Castle. There was a tradition within the family of marking their foreheads as a sign of a personal oath to become king. Members of the family were also exempt from the Magic Knights Entrance Exam and automatically accepted into the Crimson Lion squad of the Magic Knights.
• House Kira (キーラ家, Kira-ke) :

A body within the kingdom was the Magic Parliament (魔法議会 Mahōgikai) that consisted of royals and nobles. It as said to be responsible for deciding the laws of the nation and could stand in judgement over citizens of the kingdom.

There was said to be an anti-monarchist faction within the kingdom that wanted to eliminate the king.

The kingdom had its own currency in the form of the yul (ユール yūru).

It was surrounded by three rival kingdoms which included the Diamond Kingdom who drew their power from their powerful wizards, the Heart Kingdom who drew their power from the magic rich lands and the Spade Kingdom who drew their power from Devils. A neutral zone existed between the Diamond and Clover Kingdoms with this being the Forest of Witches who brooked no intruders into their territory.

• Lemiel Silvamillion Clover (ルミエル・シルヴァミリオン・クローバー, Rumieru Shiruvamirion Kurōbā) : a blonde haired male of the royal family who was the 1st Magic Emperor who wielded light magic.
• Augustus Kira Clover XIII (アウグストゥス・キーラ・クローバー13世 Augusutusu Kīra Kurōbā 13-sei) : a 35 year old man who was of the royal family and served as the current reigning King of the Clover Kingdom.
• Damnatio Kira (ダムナティオ・キーラ Damunatio Kīra) : a dark haired male who was the Chairman of the Magic Parliament who wielded scale magic.
• Julius Novachrono (ユリウス・ノヴァクロノ, Yuriusu Novakurono) : a blonde haired male who was the 28th Magic Emperor and wielder of time magic.
