Mark (Slimer)
Mark was a British drug smuggler. He was the boyfriend of Chris and the best friend of Paul Latham. His wealthy father owned a private yacht, which he was persuaded by Alex Rinaldo to use in a dope run across the Atlantic. Mark was also a longtime heroin addict, but had told neither his father nor Paul for fear of angering them. Alex was his main supplier. During the voyage, Mark caused the yacht to sink when he started a fire below decks with a lit joint accidentally. Everyone barely made it into the life raft before the yacht exploded and sank. They found what seemed like salvation when they stumbled across an oil rig, and a crane hoisted them out of the sea. However, they found the rig deserted.
Mark, investigating the driver's cabin of the crane, found only empty clothes and some strange, black slime. Inside the rig itself, the group found it concealed a top-secret Brinkstone research laboratory, where scientists had been conducting genetic experiments. Investigating, he and Paul found some videotapes made by head scientist Dr. Gordon Shelley, which revealed to them the history of the ill-fated Phoenix Project and its creation of the shapeshifting, intelligent great white shark "Charlie," which had absorbed all of the scientists and guards and still stalked the rig.
Mark began experiencing withdrawal symptoms, and Chris was forced to trade sexual favors for some Alex's personal stash of heroin. Although Mark got a little better, he got worse after Alex was killed, and he didn't know where to find the American's heroin. He suffered a complete and total mental breakdown when Chris was slain and absorbed by Charlie. Refusing to accept Chris' death, he prevented Paul from shooting Charlie while the monster was in Chris' form. After confessing his heroin addiction to an angered Paul, Mark fled. He found his way into the room Alex had shared with Rochelle, where, but pure blind luck, he found Alex's heroin stash.
Desperate for a hit, he forgot all about the danger posed by Charlie, and shot up. Immediately afterward, Charlie, in the form of the same black slime Mark had found in the crane earlier, oozed out from a vent above Mark's head and flowed down over him, engulfing and absorbing him. This introduced heroin into Charlie's system, causing the genetically-engineered beast to become addicted. Mark, for his part, was too high to even realize he was being absorbed. His mind became trapped inside of Charlie like everyone else, but he was set free when Paul and Linda killed Charlie's original body by overdosing it with heroin injections, granting Mark and the others the release of death.
