Prosh is a comic artificial intelligence character that features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Origin

Prosh was an artificial intelligence entity that had been developed and emerged in the future.

Originally, he was known as Ship and was an exploratory vessel dispatched by the Celestials to study newborn civilizations. Thousands of years ago, he was dispatched to study the inhabitants of the planet Earth. (X-Men Forever v1 #1)

Professor briefed Cable who had returned to the future on research on an 'Awakening' sighting of a High Lord with it suspected that Sam Guthrie being one of their number. (X-Force v1 #8)

Professor

In the present day, Cable consulted with his computer and asked Professor on any new developments in the research of a new Awakening. Professor informed him of Samuel Guthrie and reports of him existing in the 24th century suggesting he was an Externals High Lord. Upon reviewing the data, Cable began to wonder whether Professor was correct on Guthrie. (X-Force v1 #8)

Personality and attributes

He took the name Prosh as it was a combination of his prior designations of Professor and Ship. (X-Men Forever v1 #1)

In the far future, Professor noted that his recollections of the distant past were faulty(X-Force v1 #8)

Cable commented that Professor was like a father to him and he himself saw Nathan as a son. (X-Men Forever v1 #1)

Powers and abilities

His lifespan was noted to had been across millennia. (X-Men Forever v1 #1) Cable was able to task him on research initiatives and speak to him on their progress. He could extrapolate possibilities from data he gathered but he could not predict with a complete degree of accuracy. (X-Force v1 #8)

As a computer, he allowed Cable access to Bodyslide teleportation abilities for himself and others around him so long as he provided coordinates. Professor was also able to Timeslide where he opened doorways into the timestream. (X-Force v1 #8)

He was able to create a human simulacrum to act as his messenger. (X-Men Forever v1 #1)

Notes

  • Prosh was created by Louise Simonson and Walter Simonson where the character first appeared as Ship in X-Factor v1 #15 (1987) but later featured as Professor in X-Force v1 #8 (1992) before becoming Prosh X-Force v1 #39 (1994).
  • The character received an entry in All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe v1 #8 (2006).

Computer in X-Men: The Animated Series.
  • In the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series, Prosh did not appear in the series but in episode "Time Fugitive" Cable was shown with an artificial intelligence named Computer. 'She' was the personal computer of Cable in the year 3999 A.D. and assisted him in fighting against the forces of Apocalypse. Computer aided Cable by monitoring the timestream and giving him bodyslide teleportation capabilities. 'She' informed Cable of changes in the timeline that erased their future and transported him back in time to avert the changes.

Video games

  • In Marvel Heroes, the Professor was referenced in the MMORPG video game where he was mentioned in Cable's ultimate attack named Graymalkin. The description referenced him as being a Celestial AI that controlled the orbital space station and could bring its firepower to the surface to aid Cable against his enemies.
