Biography
Origin
Heggra was a female member of the New Gods and an inhabitant of the dark world of Apokolips where she was the sister of Steppenwolf. (New Gods v1 #7) She was noted to had married Yuga Khan who came to rule that world. (New Gods v3 #20) In that time, she came to have two children by the name of Uxas and Drax. (New Gods v3 #18) Later on, husband came to be lost beyond the Source Wall when he tried to uncover the power of the Source. (New Gods v3 #19) This resulted in Heggra become the sole ruler of the planet Apokolips where her brother Steppenwolf was charged with leading military forces in strikes against New Genesis. (New Gods v1 #7)
Her eldest son was opposed to any further conflict with New Genesis and even forged a friendship with Izaya. Such a move was unpopular in the royal court of with Uxas claiming that perhaps he was more suitable to the throne. Secretly, he began his own preparations for claiming rule of all of Apokolips. After the latest peace with New Genesis, Uxas told his mother that Drax had decided to be a peacemaker, and shook hands with Izaya the Inheritor. Heggra found this hilarious, and warned her son that he must prove his Apokoliptan worth by soon taking a wife and the god-power that was rightfully his. Pressured by his mother, and his treacherous friend Desaad, he decided to go ahead with his rite of passage. (Jack Kirby's Fourth World v1 #3) Heggra awaited the outcome, and at dinner she had a servant present her with a number of Hunger Dog infants, and she chose a plump one for her meal. Uxas betrayed Drax, and stole the power for himself. He prepared to kill his mother, but she laughed. She knew Drax would fail, and Uxas would succeed because she had crafted him to represent what the omega energy represented. She’d been cold and cruel to him, and made him into a heartless schemer obsessed with power. She asked his god name, and he’d chosen Darkseid, the name no other New God had ever claim for themselves. He admitted there was much he could learn from his mother in the ways of evil, and spared her. (Jack Kirby's Fourth World v1 #5)
During one of Steppenwolf's raids, Heggra's brother was responsible for killing Avia who was the wife of Izaya. (New Gods v1 #7)
Heggra was responsible for getting her son Darkseid married to Tigra with their union producing a Orion. At some point, Heggra was killed during the events of the war between Apokolips and New Genesis. (New Gods v1 #7)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.
She did not rule for long, as she had Darkseid's first love Suli killed, to replace her with Heggra's own choice for his mate: Tigra. This was the final impetus that Darkseid needed to hate and kill his own mother. Darkseid sent Granny to assassinate her. (Female Furies v1 #1)
