Biography
Origin
Groot
The Flora Colossi during this time had forged an empire ruled through fear and conquest where they abducted people from other worlds for scientific experimentation. One of these probes saw them abduct a young girl named Hannah from Earth who was being studied by their kind. Groot came upon the young girl and opposed to his people's war-like ways decided to save the child with him sending her back to Earth. For his actions, he came to be punished by the Arbor Masters of the Flora Colossi. (Groot v1 #6)
Guardians of the Galaxy
Alongside Rocket, they travelled to the Stohlad Ring where they were attacked by a masked figure later revealed to be the Gardener. Groot sacrificed his life to hold back the Elder of the Universe who seemingly desired the Flora Colossus for a special plan. However, a piece of Groot survived on Rocket's fur which was cultivated allowing him to regrow but he remained trapped in a small size rather than return to his full size for an unknown reason. (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #9)
During the battle, Groot managed to convince the Gardener of how his actions were wrong and noted the poison within him. He helped cure him with the Elder revealing that he fell into a madness due to the machinations of Loki who had poisoned him. In repentance, he healed Groot where he restored him to his original state where he went to do battle with the giant Flora Colossus called Scar. (Infinity Countdown v1 #1)
