Count Vertigo

Count Vertigo was the leader of the Society of Shadows. He originally worked for Ra's al Ghul until be betrayed him and went off on his own to found the Society. Vertigo wore a special eyepiece that gave off a disorienting effect, rendering his victims dizzy and helpless. He stole an experimental sonic drill from Wayne Enterprises, although what precisely what he intended to do with the device is not known.

Whatever his plans, Vertigo was stopped by the combined might of Batman, out to stop the Society and recover the drill, and Talia, sent by her father to kill Vertigo for his betrayal and recover the drill for Ra's own purposes. Vertigo is thought to have been killed falling from the belltower of his monastery hideout and plunging into a river after Batman and Talia disoriented him by ringing the church bells.
