Shepherd's Journal
The Shepherd's Journal was a book that featured Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
Background
The Journal was an ancient book which contained writings that would lead explorers to the fabled city of Atlantis that had sunk beneath the ocean countless centuries ago. Its contents included clues, coordinates and other necessary information needed for one to locate the city which were written in an obscure dead language. The book was lost years ago at the coast of Iceland with clues of its location being placed in writings from various ancient cultures such as the Norse, Egyptians and other similar civilizations. A mistranslation in the writings can lead people to think that the book was buried in the coast of Ireland.
The book also contained a description and drawing of the Leviathan, a creature that guarded the entrance to Atlantis underwater. Its appearance was said to have been so monstrous that it drove men mad. The drawing depicted the monster looking like a large lobster type creature. Furthermore information in the Journal said that at the bottom of the sea was a tunnel that led into an air pocket. A vessel that made its way there would be able to take an ancient tunnel highway to a temple that would lead into the city itself.
Originally, the Journal contained a complete list of contents of the ancient city but the mercenary Rourke took a page from it which detailed information about the Heart of Atlantis which included a drawing.
Milo Thatch's grandfather Thaddeus Thatch located the Journal sometime before his death. Before he died, he bequethed it to his grandson when he came of age. Milo himself made use of the Journal to find the city of Atlantis itself.
