Sandy Hawkins is a male comic superhero who features in DC Comics.

Biography

Sandy Hawkins

With their success, the assembled heroes decided to reform the Justice Society where Alan Scott decided to make Sand Hawkins its chairman. Sand was deeply honoured and accepted the role but then his body transformed into sand that collapsed into the ground. (JSA v1 #4) He was then shunted deep beneath the crust of the planet where through an incredible act of will he managed to reconstitute his body to return to the surface before he suffocated. Sand then made his way to TylerCo to study his condition where it was determined by Dr. Iker that his body had become a silicon-based form. Hourman arrived after tracking his team mate and was informed about his comrades fate. (JSA v1 #5)

Overview

Powers and abilities

Mutated into a sand creature in JSA v1 #5.

He could use this ability to travel across fault lines to distant locations on the planet but had to concentrate in order to reform his body where initially he emerged as a naked sand-based humanoid. In time, Sand came to refine the use of his powers allowing him to pass through any objects with silica in it including glass and bricks. This allowed him to also not leave sand in his wake whenever he used his ability. (JSA v1 #5)

Tylerco came to provide him a silica-based fabric that allowed him to take his costume with him whenever he was travelling through fault lines. (JSA v1 #5)

• Sandy Hawkins was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris where he made his first appearance in Adventure Comics v1 #69 (December, 1941).
