History
Origin
Many of their members were from nations conquered by the Nazi's with them seeing their loved ones murdered that hardened their resolve. Whilst operating, they developed a bad reputation to people on the European continent with them being regarded as air pirates and assassins. This was because few were aware of the origins or objectives of the group thus thinking they were mercenaries. (Military Comics v1 #2)
DC
Blackhawk Express began to operate exclusively for the D.E.O. where they helped in transporting Metahumans and related materials. (JSA v1 #12)
The New 52
Overview
During World War II, they consisted of the last of the free men of the conquered countries who fought for freedom of man rather than for money or politics. (Military Comics v1 #2) By the modern day, they were a kind of covert anti-apocalyptic team. (Dark Nights: Metal v1 #1)
Each member of the Squadron was considered an expert in their field. Their tragic pasts had made them hard and bitter men but that this aided them on their missions. They tended to sing a number of songs for their efforts during World War II to boost their spirits. As a unit, they were highly precise in their movements with them giving secret signals to one another on their tactics. (Military Comics v1 #2)
The Squadron had with them numerous vehicles and aircraft for their use with them being skilled and fearsome fighters in them. (Military Comics v1 #2)
They had their own island headquarters that were known as Blackhawk Island which contained facilities allowing them to defend themselves and had numerous vehicles available. (Military Comics v1 #1)

- The Blackhawk Squadron were created by Chuck Cuidera, Bob Powell and Will Eisner where the made their first appearance in Military Comics v1 #1 (August, 1941) for Quality Comics.

- In Arrow, the Blackhawks featured as a private security group called Blackhawk Squad Protection Group who appeared in the episode "Trust But Verify". One of their employees was Theodore Gaynor who was a former commanding officer of John Diggle when the two served in the military at Afghanistan. Gaynor and other Blackhawk employees were operating in secret where they staged robberies of numerous trucks that were carrying money. These robberies made use of a swarming technique that Gaynor had developed in Afghanistan and attracted the attention of the Vigilante.
