Imperial Guard
Majestor
In time, he decided that he needed to step down as ruler of the Shi'ar Imperium and instead relinquish the throne to Princess Xandra who represented the royal Neramani line. However, the young Shi'ar girl was not mature enough to rule and it was decided that she needed a regent to help train as well as mentor her. Thus, it was decided to end Deathbird's exile and return her to Chandilar to serve as her niece's regent with Gladiator dispatching Smasher with the task of recovering the former renegade. Unknown to him, Oracle did not believe Xandra was a fit ruler and that Gladiator should remain on the throne. Thus, she secretly contacted the Shi'ar Death Commandos and tasked them with eliminating Deathbird. Deathbird was saved by the New Mutants who escorted her to Chandilar where she attacked Oracle after learning the truth about the assassination. Unaware of this, Gladiator believed Deathbird had betrayed them leading to a battle between the Imperial Guard and the New Mutants. This was only ended when the truth of Oracle's actions was revealed with Xandra punishing the Guardsmen by appointing her as her advisor to better train her as a soldier. After hostilities ended, a portal was established to the Mutant nation of Krakoa with Gladiator thanking Cyclops for the X-Men's aid and stating he was in their debt. Cyclops then asked if a portal could be placed on the beautiful floating island of Chandilore so that it could be used as a vacation spot for the X-Men with Gladiator agreeing to it.
