Biography
Casval Rem Deikun (Japanese: キャスバル・レム・ダイクン, Hepburn: Kyasubaru Remu Daikun) was a male human born in the Universal Century on November 17, 0059 where he was the son of Zeon Zum Deikun and Astraia Tor Deikun.
He and his sister were both sent to Earth following their father's supposed heart attack when Deikun's deputy Degwin Sodo Zabi orchestrated his own family's rise to power. Casval spent his remaining childhood years raised by Don Teabolo Mass under the alias of Édouard Mass before he and his sister fled to the Texas Colony after an attempt on their lives that killed their provider Jimba Ral who revealed the Zabi family assassinated Deikun. It was there that Casval decided to take the name of Char Aznable after switching identities with a youth whose near-identical appearance to him resulted in his death by Kycilia Zabi's men. Aznable used his falsified death to enrol at the Zeon Military Academy where he came to befriend Garma Zabi whilst wearing sunglasses to hide his eye colour. Around this time, the Zeon Republic began to transition to the Principality of Zeon leading to relations with the Earth Federation deteriorating.
Overview
Personality and attributes
Whilst being raised by Don Teabolo Mass, Casval came to take the name of Édouard Mass whilst he was hiding from the Zabi family. During the One Year War, he came to gain the honorary title of the Red Comet (赤い彗星, Akai Suisei). After joining the AEUG, he came to take the name Quattro Bajeena (クワトロ・バジーナ, Kuwatoro Bajīna) in order to hide his true identity during the fight against the Titans.
Powers and abilities
His time at the Zeon Space Defense Military Academy helped hone his combat skills as a foot soldier where he was capable in the use of firearms, detonating explosives, and fencing.
As a mobile suit pilot, Char excelled in multiple fields of combat including land, air, and space. In battle, he was able to exploit the disadvantages of his foe and used it to his advantage.
He favoured speed-orientated offensive battle tactics and hated to get hit, even when piloting an I-Field generator equipped unit that meant beam attacks had minimal to no effect.
Notes
- Char Aznable was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and featured in the setting of Mobile Suit Gundam.
- In an interview with Tomino, it was commented that the character of Char Aznable was based on the historic fighter-pilot Manfred von Richthofen who shared a similar nickname as the 'Red Baron'.
