Biography
Crocodile (Japanese: クロコダイル, Hepburn: Kurokodairu)
At some point, he came to learn the existence of an ancient weapon known as the Pluton whose location was said to be located on the Poneglyph situated in the kingdom of Arabasta. This led to him seeking to find it and acquire its power for himself in order to establish himself as a potent military force in the world. Thus, sixteen years ago, at the age of 30, Crocodile came to relocate to Arabasta where he became renowned as a pirate-hunting hero. Despite his government contract, Crocodile organised a crime syndicate called Baroque Works which worked in secrecy. He gathered some of the best bounty hunters in the world and gave them code names where none knew of the identity of their leader. Around this time, he came to encounter notorious outlaw Nico Robin who was 24 years old at the time where he decided to work with her. In exchange for protecting her from the Marines, she would help him in his plot and use her skills to translate the Poneglyph when they found it. As such, Robin came to be his second in command at Baroque Works under the code name of Miss All-Sunday where she became the only person allowed to know that he was the head of the group.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Crocodile was a tall man with a wide chest, broad shoulders, muscular arms and legs, and a thick neck. As the shadowy leader of Baroque Works, he came to be known by the code name of Mister 0. (ミスター0, Misutā 0)
Such was his ruthless nature that he had no issue killing a person where he demonstrated a pitiless nature. He did not hesitate to sentence a person to death. In addition, he was very quick to anger if someone insulted or angered him where he had said that he had never failed to kill anyone who had ever insulted him.
Crocodile liked to enjoy toying with weaker opponents where he often grinned and laughed smugly during battle.
It was shown that he almost completely lacked any sort of code of honor.
He demonstrated no care for his subordinates nor any emotional concern for their well-being. In fact, he was fully willing to sacrifice them to achieve his ambitions.
A sophisticated mastermind, he was shown to be patient where he engaged in long term plots to fulfil his goals. Such was evident in his plot to topple the kingdom of Arabasta where he cause an endless drought in the kingdom, framed its ruler for the incident, established Baroque Works to execute his plans and make himself to be a hero of the people.
In Arabasta, he was viewed as a savior figure who protected the country from pirate attacks, as part of his duty as a Warlord of the Sea. Though a national hero, Crocodile did not care for the local population nor their adoration for him as he instead looked down on them as fools and only acting against threats in order to keep up appearances.
Crocodile valued military power above popularity, renown, and treasure, believing that only ignorant fools declare their grandiose dreams.
Powers and abilities
Originally, Crocodile was an ordinary human being who through his skill and ability came to be a fearsome pirate. It was shown as being extremely intelligent and cunning.
He used to be one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (王下七武海, Ōka Shichibukai) that had consisted of the most powerful and notorious pirates to be recognised by the World Government.
Later in his life, he came to eat from the Suna Suna no Mi (スナスナの実, Sand-Sand Fruit) that was a Logia-type (自然ロギア系, Rogia-kei) Devil Fruit (悪魔の実, Akuma no Mi). It allowed him turn his body to sand which he could manipulate freely at will thus making Crocodile into a Sand Human (砂人間 Suna Ningen?). He could use this power both defensively and offensively as he could turn himself to sand in order to relocate himself elsewhere, shift into sand to avoid attacks or turn limbs into sand to strike someone. Whilst in a desert region, his powers made him nearly invincible where he could create huge sandstorms, make multiple bladed weapons out of sand, and create quicksand in the ground beneath his opponents.
Among his more dangerous abilities was the power to absorb all the moisture out of any object whether they were living or non-living by touching them with his right hand. This allowed him to utterly destroy his surroundings and even kill any living being via dehydration thus mummifying the body in the process.
Though seemingly invulnerable, a particular weakness of his power was that people covered in a form of moisture were able to strike him so long as it coated their body. This substance could be water or even blood where it prevented Crocodile from going immaterial as sand.
In addition to his powers, he had a hook hand on his left limb which he could use in combat. In some cases, it was coated in a deadly poison where a single cut was able to infect his foe and slowly kill them.
From the shadows, he came to form the criminal syndicate known as Baroque Works (バロックワークス, Barokku Wākusu) though his existence was kept a closely guarded secret.
