Biography
Secre Swallowtail (Japanese: セクレ・スワロテイル, Hepburn: Sekure Suwaroteiru) was a female human who lived many years ago where she was a citizen of the Clover Kingdom and born to a noble family. However, her magic was deemed useless by the nobility and thus she was often dismissed by others. During this time, she came to be assigned to serve Prince Lemiel Silvamillion Clover who was a powerful magic user. Unlike other royals, he was kind hearted and saw Secre as a friend where he had her assist him in creating magical tools that anyone could use regardless of magical potential. One day, she came to follow Lemiel and his sister, Tetia, as they snuck out of the castle to visit the Elf Tribe.
On Tetia and Licht's wedding day, Secre hears Lemiel calling for help and finds him bound by magic. She reports that the magic siphon was stolen and unseals the prince. They fly to the wedding venue but are too late. The magic tool was used to kill the elves and Tetia, and Licht's grimoire has become corrupted into a five-leaf clover. To prevent Zagred from taking his body, Licht uses the magic stones to transform himself into a giant demon.
While Lemiel fights the monster, Secre notices that Tetia and one of the twins are still alive so she seals their injuries. However, she has to leave to help Lemiel and takes with her the magic siphon and the magic stones. Lemiel uses the siphon to absorb the monster's magic. Although the tool breaks, it weakens Licht enough for Lemiel to kill him. Secre uses the magic stones to seal Zagred, and the magic causes two horns to grow from her head. Before her spell finishes, Zagred calls the stones over and uses them to cast Reincarnation Magic on the elves, planning to return with them. Since Lemiel is fatally injured during the fight, Secre uses the stones again and seals the prince in a statue atop the demon's skeleton on the outskirts of Hage. Due to the overuse of Forbidden Magic, she is transformed into an anti-bird.
Five centuries later, Secre and a flock of anti-birds are present when the Magic Knights Entrance Exam is held. They pester several examinees prior to the start of the exam. After she encounters Asta, Secre decides to land on top of his head and sneaks into his clothes for a couple of days without revealing herself to the former. After Asta's fight with Heath Grice ends, Secre decides to come out of Asta's clothes and takes off to observe Sosshi from above. She then locates the magic stone within the attic of the village church. Secre takes it to Asta and uses it to peck Asta's head in order to wake him up. Secre then tries to hold the item as tight as possible when Asta tries to take it from her with the intention to return it to the villagers. Afterwards, Secre begins to chase Asta around the village while pecking his head, with Noelle Silva following them from behind. She then lands on top of Asta's head while the latter is giving a few words of encouragement to one of the children of the village.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Secre Swallowtail was a short, slender human woman with black hair arranged in a bob style. Her use of forbidden magic resulted in her developing two small horns by the sides of her head. As a bird, she was given the name of Nero by Asta (黒ネロ).
While Secre initially only followed Asta because of his grimoire, she grows to genuinely care for him as the series progresses. She also possesses a strong sense of loyalty and devotion to Prince Lemiel Silvamillion Clover, having defied natural law to keep him alive and caused herself to be sealed as a bird, and despite this, she still retained her strong sense of loyalty towards him and she even went as far as stating that she would gladly follow him to the afterlife when his body began to crumble after exhausting his power.
Powers and abilities
As a magic user, Secre gained her own Grimoire and developed a talent towards Sealing Magic (封緘魔法 Fūkan Mahō) allowing her to either open or close anything. She had the ability to sense mana in living creatures and inanimae objects. It was also shown that she could locate magical objects across great distances and through obstacles such as walls. Her mana senses could allow her to find the quickest path towards the mana she was sensing.
Among the techniques known to her included:
- Sealing Magic: Inverse Release (封緘魔法『逆解』 Fūkan Mahō "Sakatoki") : by holding out her hands, she was able to cast her magic which forcibly opened any object. The spell could force open anything including a closed gateway, a sealed soul, break apart magical bindings or handcuffs.
- Sealing Magic: Eternal Prison (封緘魔法『囹永』 Fūkan Mahō "Hitoya Nagae") : a forbidden spell whereby she created a clear cube around a target that could trap her target within it for centuries. This spell required a large amount of magic power.
- Sealing Healing Magic: Closed Sorrow (封緘回復魔法『憂瞑』 Fūkan Kaifuku Mahō "Urei Tsumuri") : a sealing spell that could operate as a kind of healing magic where the open grimoire allowed her to close wounds and even reattach severed limbs.
- Sealing Healing Magic: Heavenly Prison: Faint Omen (封緘回復魔法『括牢・幽ノ刻橋』 Fūkan Kaifuku Mahō "Tenrō Kasukano Kizahashi") : another sealing based healing magic whereby she could temporarily lock away the bodily damage experienced by a person.
