Biography

Calvin Zabo was a male human born on Earth in the modern age. (Journey into Mystery v1 #99)

At one point, he was involved in a research project that looked to cellular regeneration on a molecular level where he came to work alongside Michael Morbius. In one instance, Zabo invited Dr. Morbius to his hidden laboratory where he bragged of being free of oversight and able to conduct un-regulated research. (Morbius: Bond of Blood v1 #1)

It was said he had been fired from every job he had held and had a notorious reputation. He then approached Dr. Donald Blake several months ago where he intended to ask to work for him and secretly planned to rob him in the process. However, upon meeting Dr. Blake, the man came to refuse and he was asked to leave the building with this act humiliating Zabo. Upon leaving, he vowed revenge against Blake and looked to attain powers as a result where he created a chemical that drew out his baser more stronger nature which created his Mr. Hyde persona. (Journey into Mystery v1 #99) According to one account, he had regular 'business' with a prostitute by the name of Kim Johnson with the woman becoming pregnant with his child. However, his daughter Daisy Johnson was given away for adoption. (Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury v1 #1) In reality, the girl's mother had a lineage to the Inhumans with Daisy eventually manifesting powers. (S.H.I.E.L.D. v3 #7)

He then made his way to the practice of Dr. Donald Blake in order for him to repay an old debt owed to Mr. Hyde. With his new superhuman powers he sought out Blake, whom he tried to kill by throwing him from a window, but Blake transformed into Thor by striking his cane on the wall and survived, with Thor claiming that he have saved Blake. Hyde, hearing of this on the radio, decided to eliminate Thor. He tried framing him for a bank robbery by using his vast strength to rip open a bank vault while disguised as Thor. (Journey into Mystery v1 #99) While Blake and Jane Foster were out, Hyde met and kidnapped them at gunpoint. As Blake, he got tied up next to a bomb that would explode in 24 hours unless Hyde defused it. However, when attempting to steal a Polaris submarine to roam the seas like a pirate, After Thor defeated Hyde, the authorities saw his brute strength and realized he must have impersonated Thor, but Thor forced himself to let him escape, as Jane thought Blake is still in danger. (Journey into Mystery v1 #100)

In the Financial District, Mr. Hyde battered several policemen and stole money from an armored car. The police pursued him; and Hyde prepared to take a potion and revert back to his less identifiable alter ego. However, the serum does not affect him. However, Hyde still escaped and made his way back to his Chinatown lab. Daredevil decided to find Hyde. He used his senses to smell Hyde and the chemicals from his lab. At Hyde's lab, the criminal finally found a serum to revert him to his human self. However, it will make him human forever. The effects of the serum would be irreversible. Hyde decided to become human forever. At that moment, Daredevil crashed into the lab and startled Hyde. Hyde did not take the serum and noted that he, now, does not want to become human. His past superhero pursuers would find him, and as he would be a weak human, he could no longer defend himself. The two battle and Daredevil eventually lures him to subway station. He is able to use his billy club to electrocute Hyde on one of the rails. Hyde is rendered unconscious and the police arrest the villain. (Daredevil v1 #235)

Mr. Hyde attacked Dr. Bruce Banner on a moving train. Mr Hyde destroyed the roof allowing sun to flood the room and causing Hulk discomfort as he leaped to the roof, with Hulk pulling him through and the two beginning a brawl in the car. Hulk then threw Hyde from the train who grabbed the caboose as he fell forcing the Hulk to catch and save it, and after Hyde fell he managed to pull the car back up, but falls to the river below. (Incredible Hulk v1 #368)

Rejected by the New World Order, Mr. Hyde went to Manhattan to track them down and get the money owed him. Peter spotted Hyde's alter ego Calvin Zabo checking into the hotel. Having left his costume at home, Peter grabbed Phil Urich's hooded sweatshirt to hide his face and investigates. Instead, he ends up in a brawl with Hyde that leads right into the party. Hyde finally decided his opponent is his old partner, the Cobra, and eventually withdraws, right into the waiting police force. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #433)

Afterwards, he was attempting to build a criminal empire that was expanding into East Los Angeles. (All-New Ghost Rider v1 #2)

He was one of many villains that came to be recruited into Baron Zemo's Army of Evil. (Captain America: Steve Rogers v1 #13)
