Biography

Origin

Lord Havok was a human inhabitant of the world of Angor that was an Earth-like world in a parallel dimension in the Multiverse. (Justice League Quarterly v1 #3)

Though killed, a robotic duplicate of Lord Havok along with the other Extremists was made by Uncle Mitch Wacky who headed a theme park attraction on their world. Dreamslayer after being lost in another dimension for 5 years came to find himself alone on the dead world. But in the robotic Extremists, he came to find company in his comrades and was the only living being among them as they ruled over the planet. (Justice League Europe v1 #19)

Lord Havok and the Extremists managed to find a way onto the mainstream Earth where they attempted to take over the planet leading to a conflict with Justice League Europe. (Justice League Europe v1 #15)

Post-Infinite Crisis

Following the Infinite Crisis, a new version of the Multiverse came to be established leading to the creation of a different incarnation of Lord Havok who existed on Earth-8. (Countdown v1 #29) Alexi Nikolai was the son of Czar Nikolai III of Russia. Complications in his delivery led to the child being born disfigured. His father came to be disgusted by his son and attempted to kill him but was stopped by his wife, who later sent Alexei away to escape the Czar's wrath. As he grew, Alexi developed a talent for designing machines and androids and in college even created a malleable liquid-metal skin that he could control with his mind. Some time later, Alexi's father discovered that his wife had been sending Alexi money to finance his study and ended up killing her. Angered at the loss of the one person whom he loved, Alexi returned to his homeland and used his new technology to kill his father. He then gave the Russian people twenty-four hours to evacuate, before using massive devices of his own invention to eradicate Russia. (Countdown Presents: Lord Havok and the Extremists v1 #1)

The costumed Tin Man was the first metahuman to be elected President and Americommando was his running mate. Once in office, his Metahuman Act created the Meta Militia, a peacekeeping force made up of super-heroes. But those who failed to register under the Act and join the Militia were imprisoned. The freedom fighter called Lord Havok murdered President Tin Man while he was delivering a television address. After Tin Man's assassination, the Americommando (James) became the new president and Blue Jay (Adam) became Vice President. The Americommando was arrogant and cocksure. Blue Jay detested these qualities in him, and worse—the president began sleeping with Blue Jay's wife, Diane, who was also a member of the Meta Militia. Six years later, the Extremists took over the nation of Slovekia and murdered the ruling family. (Countdown Presents: Lord Havok and the Extremists v1 #1 Dr. Diehard was a dissenter to Havok's actions. He maintained much of his pacifist leanings and began sowing the seeds of dissent. One of their undercover allies was Barracuda, the head of Angor's Meta Militia. At this time, people from across the multiverse began converging on Earth-8. From Earth-0, the Challengers of the Unknown—Donna Troy, Kyle Rayner and Jason Todd—arrived, and Todd killed Barracuda. The conqueror Monarch also spied this world, and hoped to add its metahumans to his multiversal army. Monarch offered to make Havok his Lieutenant, but Havok declined. (Countdown Presents: Lord Havok and the Extremists v1 #2)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Prince Alexi of Kravia was born to the royal family of his home country where he was cast out due to suffering from hemophilia. He would end up selling his soul to the Might Beyond the Mirror for new blood and metal skin ultimately allowing him to retake the throne by force and becoming the greatest supervillain of Angor. (Justice League of America v5 #2)

Overview

Personality and attributes

He and his compatriots had longed to rule their world rather than destroy it. (Justice League Europe v1 #15)

Powers and abilities

He wore a suit of cybernetic armor with built-in high-tech weapons. The armor gave him protection from physical and energy attacks, enhanced strength and endurance, can generate energy blasts and force fields, and had a built-in radar system to detect unseen threats and had targeting systems.

Notes

  • Lord Havok was created by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and Bart Sears where he made his first appearance in Justice League Europe v1 #15 (June, 1990).
  • In an interview, DC editors confirmed that the previous continuity tying in Maxwell Lord with Lord Havok has been disregarded as non-canon. However, the Booster Gold series has now taken the idea to explain Lord's fall from grace: he was intent on recovering his lost humanity and suffered through months of painful, illegal surgeries to remove the cybernetic parts and restore human pieces to his body. This process was what drove Lord to fear and shun all metahumans.

In other media

Television

  • In Justice League Unlimited, Lord Havok appeared in the setting of the animated television series set in the DC Animated Universe in the episode "Shadow of the Hawk". Lord Havok was a member of a group of supervillains that battled the Justice League. He was incapacitated by Batman, who used an electrically charged Batarang on him.
The depicted subject bears the likeness of Lord Havok from the DC Comics; however, the DCAU character was never named on-screen, or otherwise.
