Dr. Moreau
Dr. Moreau was a scientist who aimed to use vivisection to artificially evolve animals into human beings. He, along with a disgraced medical student named Montgomery, set up a biological research station on a Pacific island that as far as they knew had no name. Here Moreau's work yielded mixed results and soon the island had a sizable population of half animal, half human creatures, the "Beast People," who Moreau kept under his control using a litany called "the Law."
Moreau's hold over the island's denizens began to weakens thanks, unintentionally, to shipwreck survivor Edward Prendick - who, initially believing the Beast People to be devolved humans, attempted to incite them to rebel against Moreau. Although the seeds of revolt were sown as a result, Moreau was killed in an unrelated incident not long afterward, when his latest experimental subject, a puma, escaped from his lab (called "the House of Pain"). Moreau chased it alone, and he and the partially transformed cat killed one another in the jungle.
Island of Lost Souls
Dr. Moreau is killed in a revolt against him led by the Sayer of the Law, because Moreau broke his own Law by commanding Ouran to kill Captain Donahue. Chased by the Beast People, Moreau was captured and taken into the House of Pain, where he was killed with his own surgical instruments.
