Biography
Origin
Adriana Soria
Ana and Steve Rogers dated a couple of times in 1945. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #16) As a patriot, she came to serve in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and though America was at war prevailing sentiment forbade her from entering into combat. This was until one day when she was drafted into a special unit of marines with this rag-tag group unable to accomplish even the most basic elements of their specialised training. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #17) Unknown to her, she was part of the U.S. government's attempts to create super-soldiers, under the direction of Professor David Jaffe. Thus, she became among the participants in the attempt to recreate the Project Rebirth results due to her Mutant genes that resulted in her developing into a new phylum known as Homo Insectus. Ana responded well to the testing, better than any of her male compatriots. In 1946, she and her squad mates were taken to the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, where they were exposed to a nuclear bomb test. The radiation mutated her and shattered her mind, and ultimately the program was shuttered. Following the projects being shut down, Ana was left in an military asylum near Miami, Florida over the years. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #18)
Decades later, Ana, who had dubbed herself the Queen, stole a device from the US government; the device was capable of emitting a chemical and radiological burst that shuts down every human brain within a six-hundred mile radius, save for those with the insect gene. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #18) The Queen exited a limo in downtown Manhattan and began to emit a subsonic cry that drew followers to her. When an unaffected cabdriver honked at her, she tossed his car into a building. As some of her followers rioted in the streets, she entered a bank and told her minions to clear a path to the top floor for her. On the top floor, she was borne on a makeshift throne; when a police helicopter asked her if she had any demands, she swatted it aside with her telekinesis. Before long, Spider-Man and Captain America arrived on the scene, but she incapacitated Spider-Man with her sonic screech and swarmed Captain America with her drones. She hit Cap with his own shield, then knocked him out with a kick to the face. As Spider-Man struggled with her followers, she hit him with another scream, then kissed him, claiming him as her mate. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #15)
The Queen webbed Spider-Man and Cap to the walls with Spider-Man's webbing. She kissed Spider-Man again, but reacted violently when he refused her. As she turned to taunt Captain America, he freed himself; evading her drones, he freed Spider-Man, as well. She ordered her drones to kill Cap but leave Spider-Man alive; Spider-Man fought through them, driving the Queen to the roof. She ordered several of her followers to jump of the building's roof as a warning to Spider-Man, then exerted her control over him as he writhed in agony. He still refused to submit, however, and the Queen soon had to deal with a missile fired from a SHIELD fighter jet. She deflected it harmlessly away, but was then charged by Captain America, who knocked her off the side of the building. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #16) Surviving, the Queen had her hair styled downtown, then was taken by her drones to the subways, where she set a swarm of angry bees on a transit cop. She proceeded to the Hive, an underground base her drones were in the midst of constructing for her. Later, in the Hive, she held court, telling her mesmerized subjects her origin. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #17) In the Hive, the Queen tried to engage one of her drones in conversation, but found that he was unable to, due to her control over him. (Spectacular Spider-Man v2 #18)
Spider-Island
She went into hiding where she hid in an abandoned facility that was once managed by Project: Rebirth. Whilst there, Steve Rogers came to the facility to check if she was there with Adriana ambushed him where she managed to knock him unconscious. With the aid of the Jackal, she had Rogers transformed into a half-spider monster as her consort with him being known as the Spider-King. She then had the Jackal create a virus in the form of mutated bed bugs that were released into New York City. The creature bit many ordinary humans and imparted them abilities similar to Spider-Man with this developing into an epidemic. Over time, the virus mutated and reached its third stage where it transformed the infected into giant mutated spiders that were completely subservient to the powers of the Queen. As a result, this allowed Adriana Soria to quickly come into control over New York. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #670)
During the fight, her body succumbed to a mutation leading to her a giant spider-monster where she was able to fight against the various superheroes against her. This was until Spider-Man decided to deprive her of her power by having Octobots that were filled with the cure for the spider-flu. The robots then spread the cure turning the transformed humans back to normal thus depriving the Queen of her strength leading to her moving to stop Spider-Man. In this moment, she was weak enough to allowing Kaine to deal a fatal blow to her thus fulfilling the prophecy from Madame Web of Spider-Man killing the threat posed by the Spider Queen.
