Biography
Hakuryuu Ren (Japanese: 練 白龍, Hepburn: Ren Hakuryū) was a male human born to the Imperial family of the Kou Empire where he was the son of Hakutoku Ren (練 白徳, Ren Hakutoku) and Gyokuen Ren (練 玉艶, Ren Gyokuen). He was the youngest child of the Imperial Family where he had two older brothers named Hakuyuu Ren and Hakuren Ren along with an older sister named Hakuei Ren. When he was young, he once had a nightmare that disturbed him and made him cry though his mother comforted him by telling him the story of how his father was an incredible man loved by the people for unifying three countries. When Hakuryuu was 6 years old, a revolt came within the Kou Empire that was instigated by Al-Thamen who started a fire that caused him along with his brothers to flee. Separated from his mother and sister, Hakuryuu's older brothers looked after him as they battled members of the organization but despite their efforts Hakuren was killed with flames badly injuring Hakuyuu. Hakuryuu himself was left with a burn in his left eye though he was still alive whilst his dying older brother told him that their mother was responsible for the attack on their lives and urged him to seek revenge. After Hakuyuu perished from his wounds, Hakuryuu was recovered by the guards and taken to safety where he was brought to his mother. With the revolt over, his uncle Koutoku Ren became the new emperor of the Kou Empire with Gyokuen Ren marrying him to become the new empress and secure her surviving children as prince and princess. During this time, Hakuryuu asked his mother about the words his older brother spoke of regarding her part in the attempt on their lives with her not denying the claim. Gyokuen Ren, in fact, smiled and stated that even if they were true that her son was powerless to do anything with these words shocking Hakuryuu to his core. This led to the prince seeking revenge and he resolved himself with slaying his uncle along with his mother for their crimes and claim the throne of the Kou Empire for himself in order to bring justice for his slain siblings.
At some point, he was noted to had met the Yambala Gladiators (ヤンバラ五剣士, Yanbara Gosenshi) and trained under them to learn the art of Magoi manipulation. He was training in the Imperial Palace when Ju'dar came to him who told the young prince that if he wanted power quickly then he seek out an capture a dungeon like his sister had done. He was later to sent to the kingdom of Sindria under orders of the Kou Emperor in order to train under its ruler Sinbad. This saw Hakuryuu going on a boat alongside his cousin Kougyoku Ren where he wondered on the kind the Sindrian King was though his cousin was more keen on making him pay over the events of their last encounter. Arriving in Sindria, they greeted Sinbad but a misunderstanding made by Koubun Ka had resulted in his cousin Kougyoku attacking the king where Hakuryuu apologised for this when the incident was resolved. He then met Aladdin and Alibaba Saluja where he thanked the former for helping his sister. Afterwards, Ren had a private meeting with Sinbad where Hakuryuu expressed his goal in destroying the Kou Empire and looked to the Sindrian King for aid. However, Sinbad refused to answer at this time despite disagreeing with the Kou's imperialistic expansion. He instead suggested that Hakuryuu spend time with Alibaba with Ren reluctantly agreeing to do so.
This led to him deciding to split from his friends and he departed in order to head to the Kou Empire by himself. Morgiana decided to speak to him and convince him to mend the friendship with Alibaba though Hakuryuu refused to do so. It was then that Ren asked her to accompany him and revealed that he was in love with her with him kissing her. Shocked at the confession, Morgiana did not respond to his question and Hakuryuu departed but promised to return when he was victorious with him asking her again to be his bride.
He then made his way back to Kou territory where he joined his sister Hakuei in the Tenzau Plateau where she showed a ruthless streak in using his Djinn Equip to put down any enemies against the empire. By this point, he came to learn that his step-father the emperor had passed away and that the Imperial Family were to gather at the capital. Hakuryuu used his Djinn's powers to help speed the way until he arrived at the palace where he and his sister were greeted by First Prince Kouen Ren. Despite being his superior, Hakuryuu did not bow to his adoptive elder brother but despite this seeming insolence Kouen simply congratulated him on conquering a dungeon even if he lost an arm in the process. He and Hakuei later met with Kouen in private in his study as the pair had business with one another. During their meeting, Kouen asked Hakuryuu if he had designs on becoming Emperor but he responded by asked the reasons for such a question. Kouen the stated that he did not wish for infighting to erupt in the Kou Empire and felt that there could only be one Emperor of not only their nation but for the entire world. He revealed that he had pondered on the term 'King's Vessel' and the meaning behind it. In addition, he had looked into the history of the Torran language and showed that long ago the Djinn served King Solomon in a time where there were many nations and languages but that this was a time of conflict. As such, Kouen intended to create a world without conflict by uniting it all under the leadership of the Kou Empire. Their meeting was being heard by Kougyoku with the Ren family then deciding to visit the deceased emperors body to pay their last respects. At the funeral, he witnessed his mother Gyokuen Ren present where he felt nothing but hatred for her but kept silent. During the reading of the will of the Emperor, it was declared that the next ruler of the Kou Empire with Gyokuen Ren being declared the interim ruler. This created division amongst the generals of the empire and threatened a civil war but Hakuryuu pledged allegiance to his mother as the Dowager Empress much to the shock of everyone. Afterwards, his sister Hakuei confronted him about his actions but Hakuryuu believed that this set a path for their eventual coup to kill their mother for her past crimes. A horrified Hakuei then departed as she needed time to consider her brothers words with Hakuryuu despondent at his sibling not joining him in the plan. He was then approached by Ju'dar who warned Hakuryuu that he had fallen for his mothers plan and that she had intended for him to support her claim to the throne. It was then that Gyokuen Ren arrived to greet her son as she had become curious about his power after acquiring the power of Zagan. During their exchange, Hakuryuu lost his temper and let loose his power against Gyuokuen who easily managed to repel it and sent her son smashing into the wall. With their fight over, she departed the scene with Ju'dar stating that he would be proud of fighting alongside Hakuryuu if he simply redirected his anger at fighting fate.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Hakuryuu Ren was a young man of average build and height who had dark blue hair along with blue eyes where the left eye being a paler shade than the right. As a result of a fire, his left eye had a burn mark surrounding it making it a distinctive facial feature.
The experiences of his youth told him to seek revenge for harm made against him and that he needed to utterly destroy his enemy. This had led to him having a grim view of the world where he felt that revenge and hatred could never end.
He suffered from a bit of a inferiority complex that caused him to become pessimistic whenever people surrounding him notice his weaknesses with Ren taking any criticism personally.
His father was Hakutoku Ren who was once the ruler of the Kou Empire and his mother was Gyokuen Ren. Initially, he loved his mother Gyokuen Ren when he was a child and often called out to her. This changed though after learning that she was responsible for the revolt that caused the death of his father and brothers. He came to see her as the witch of Al-Thamen and intended to kill her for her actions. This led to him resolving himself in getting revenge and looking to topple the ruler of the Kou Empire. Meanwhile, he greatly treasured his sister Hakuei Ren who has not only become a mother figure for him but also the last of his siblings.
After fighting alongside Morgiana in Zagan's Dungeon, Hakuryuu came to admire the Fanalis warrior and upon learning more of her he actually came to fall in love with her. At first, he did not reveal his feelings for Morgiana but he admired everything about her. When Hakuryuu parted from Alibaba at Aktia Kingdom, Morgiana came to beg him to stay with them where at this point Ren confessed his feelings for her. He came to ask her to travel with him to the Kou Empire and even stated that he wanted to marry her where she would become the new Empress after he succeeded in toppling down its ruler. During this moment, he came to kiss her with Morgiana being shocked as this was the first time anyone had ever confessed romantic feelings for her. Seeing her at a loss for words, Hakuryuu did not pursue the matter further but stated that he would return to her side once he had completed his mission and that he would ask her again to marry him where he hoped that the answer was 'yes'.
Powers and abilities
From the Yambala Gladiators, he came to learn to channel his Ki into his spear allowing it to be strong enough to pierce powerful objects.
In time, he came to possess a multiple Djinn that were based in his Metal Vessels with these including.
- Zagan (Kanji: ザガン, Rōmaji: Zagan) : a male Djinn of Loyalty and Purity who controlled Life Magic. His Djinn Equip saw him compressing the power of Zagan into his spear were it became a two-sided weapon with a pointed tip on each end. Zagan allowed him to conduct the following techniques:
- Netsumegusa (ネツメグサ, Netsumegusa) : using Zagan's power, he could grow a kind of grass that belonged to the pea family where its incredibly long roots could be used to form fragrant herbs.
- Zaug Mobarezo (Dragon-Taming Wooden Lotus Shock) : an attack that came from his wood artificial life that created several wood projectile dragons that could smash into opponents or bite them.
- Belial (Kanji: ベリアル, Rōmaji: Beriaru) : a male five eyed Djinn of Truth and Conviction who also commanded Life Magic but one tailored to manipulating the perception of living beings and controlling their five senses. Belial allowed him to conduct the following techniques:
After losing his left arm to Ithnan, the limb was replaced into a wood prosthetic by the power of Zagan. Hakuryuu came to learn to use the artificial arm in battle but came to see it afforded him other abilities as well. This included it transforming into vines and trees allowing him to create a tentacle-like whip projectile. He came to use the arm to create even a small wood dragon from his arm with the plants growing at an exponential rate.
He later developed a combination move that saw him using his Magoi manipulation alongside Zagan's power. This allowed him to manipulate plants that were in contact with his Metal Vessel and send Zagan's magic into plant seeds causing them to grow at an incredible rate. With this talent, he could use seeds to sprout and create a long tendril that he could use to track people so long as the Magoi within the seed did not run out.
