History

The Seven Deadly Sins.

The Seven Deadly Sins (Japanese: 七つの大罪, Hepburn: Nanatsu no Taizai) were a band of warriors and adventurers that operated in the land of Britannia. Unknown to most of its members, the Seven Deadly Sins were formed for the express purpose of defeating the Demon Clan's Ten Commandments. The king of Liones had a premonition through his power vision that they would become the kingdom's protectors. Hearing this, both Meliodas and Merlin took it upon themselves to find the other five members in order to crush the Ten Commandments should they ever be revived. In time, they came to recruit Ban, King, Diane, Gowther and Escanor into their ranks. The band of elite knights came to serve the Kingdom of Liones though were independent from the throne.

One of the Seven Deadly Sins' feats included defeating the troll queen, with them having also broken the Great Druid Altar.

They were declared as traitors and villains after being framed for assassinating Zaratras, the Great Holy Knight, after heeding an order to meet up with him at the castle. They found him murdered through no fault of their own and were quickly surrounded by the kingdom's Holy Knights. Meliodas ordered the group to disperse to avoid capture, and everyone was able to escape separately. It was initially suspected that one of the members was a traitor who helped in the nefarious plot, as Meliodas was knocked unconscious shortly after issuing his order. It is later revealed that Merlin was the perpetrator, and was due to Meliodas losing himself to his anger when young Elizabeth got hurt trying to help him escape.

Ten years later, the third princess of the kingdom of Liones Elizabeth Liones came to flee from the corrupt knights that ruled her kingdom. Wearing rusted knight armor, she fled to the outskirts in search for the infamous Seven Deadly Sins whilst trying to escape her pursuers. Coming upon the Boat Hat inn, the patrons fled and the knight collapsed revealing that beneath the armor was a woman. Taking her to a bed to rest, Elizabeth was provided food by Meliodas who ran the inn where she explained about her quest and the danger she faced. It was then that the Beard of the Mountain Cat knights appeared in an attempt to capture the Rust Knight. When Elizabeth escaped from the back door, she is pursued by the knights, but she successfully escapes thanks to the efforts of Meliodas and Hawk. She was then suddenly attacked by Twigo, who discovered Elizabeth's true identity. When Twigo was about to deliver a finishing blow, Meliodas unveiled his identity as one of the Seven Deadly Sins and easily defeated the corrupt knight. Agreeing to help her, Meliodas then went about to find his former team mates and reform the Seven Deadly Sins. Elizabeth came to be hired as a waitress at the inn which was revealed to be a large boar who was called Hawk's mother. Thus, the inn was mobile and travelled across the lands taking the group to the village of Bernia that was famous for their alcoholic drinks. However, they quickly discovered that the village had suffered under the current rule of the kingdom after their river had dried up causing all the herbs to wilt. It was then that they discovered that the cause of this was a Holy Knight's sword that was used to seal the underwater source of Bernia. The villagers had all attempted to pull the sword out but none had succeeded. Meliodas then decided to pull the sword out himself which was a feat he easily achieved thus saving the underground spring.

After pulling out Gilthunder's sword, Meliodas was hailed as Bernia's savior, and a message was also reported to the Fort Solgales where Gilthunder had resided. A party was organized at the Boar Hat to celebrate the revival of Bernia's spring water, and Elizabeth attempts her first time of being a waitress. Unfortunately, because she was trying to collect information about the Seven Deadly Sins whilst serving customers, she caused several problems. In the meantime, Gilthunder decided to launch a spear towards Bernia, after asking for the approximation of the location. With one arm, he combined lightning powers with the spear and thrust it. Instantly, Meliodas noticed abnormalities and the dangers of the spear, and he decided to prevent it from causing any disasters. As he head outside, he found Elizabeth and decided to comfort her. When the spear approached the village, he caught it with one hand and was threw backwards by the momentum. However, he successfully caught the spear and threw it back towards Fort Solgales, and destroyed it. The whole fort was destroyed and Gilthunder was barely scathed. After acknowledging that they could bring more trouble to Bernia, they decided to leave and continue their search for the Seven Deadly Sins. Continuing their travels, Meliodas and Elizabeth next entered the Forest of White Dreams that was avoided by Holy Knights due to the dangers of travelling through it. Whilst journeying for 3 hours, they began to lose their sense of directions and even came to uncover strange events such as multiple copies of Hawk. These later turned into copies of Elizabeth which Meliodas defeated revealing them to be Prankster Imps who loved to play hide and seek. The monsters retreated and were pursued whereupon Meliodas finally discovered Diane of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Prankster Imps appeared to be Diane's underlings and believed that Meliodas was a Holy Knight which was why they tried to trick him. As soon as she woke up, Diane grabbed hold of Meliodas with her left hand, only to realize that Meliodas was her captain. Hawk and Elizabeth then realized that she was the Sin of Envy, Diane. As soon as Diane discovered that Meliodas was traveling with Elizabeth, she got jealous and threw him away, calling him a cheater. The impact of her thrust destroyed areas of the surrounding forest. She continues crying and rampaging until finally, she calmed down and listened to the reason why they were travelling.

After the recollection, Diane decided to help search for the Seven Deadly Sins. Immediately afterwards, the group encounters Gilthunder of the Holy Knights who paralyzed them with his electrical abilities. Gilthunder suddenly appeared and trapped Meliodas, Diane, Hawk and Elizabeth with rings of electricity. After realizing that Gilthunder was a Holy Knight, she revealed he was like her elder brother. She became shocked to learn that he was the person who attempted to wipe out Bernia, and was then released from the electrical rings. When she demanded him to release the spell, Gilthunder ignorantly kicked Hawk away and began to question Meliodas about whether he knows why the Holy Knights are after the heads of the Seven Deadly Sins. He continues to answer his own question and states that he wishes to take revenge for his father Zaratras as well as surpassing him. Afterwards, Meliodas recognizes Gilthunder as Little Gil, the son of the Great Holy Knight. In order to begin their battle, Meliodas breaks the electrical spell and draws his sword. He was able to deflect Gilthunder's initial lightning slash, but was cut by his second from behind and subsequently fell onto the ground. Gilthunder thought that he was dying and decided to ask for his last words. Meliodas took the opportunity to asked for the locations of the Seven Deadly Sins, and discovered the location of the Fox's Sin of Greed, Ban, and the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth, King, from Gilthunder. Immediately after receiving the information, Meliodas jumped back up and return to entered the battle again. As soon as Meliodas discovered the locations of the Fox's Sin of Greed, Ban, and the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth, King, from Gilthunder, he stood back. He easily and swiftly dodged Gilthunder's attacks, attempting to quickly escape the battle and search for the Seven Deadly Sins. When Gilthunder was about to deliver his finishing blow, Diane grabbed him with her hands and threw him away after her armband was burnt by Gilthunder's discharge of lightning. The Holy Knight flew into a chapel and injured priests and civilians who were praying to bring divine retribution to the Holy Knights. He remained unscathed and ignored the people who was wounded around him.

Upon Hendrickson's defeat and his villainous plan to revive the Demon Clan being fully realized by the rest of the kingdom, the Seven Deadly Sins were praised as heroes for saving the kingdom. They were also cleared of their false crimes, and welcomed back into the kingdom of Liones once more.

After this, two members of the group separated from the rest, while the other four were involved in the battle against the Ten Commandments. After joining all once again, including the last missing member, they decided to take sides to stop the Ten Commandments. With the exception of Merlin, all the Sins participate in the Great Fight Festival, that ends with Meliodas being killed by the Ten Commandments.

After a month, Meliodas resuscitate and along with Escanor and Merlin, prevents the Commandments from taking control of Liones. With the rejoining of Diane and King that were by their one, and Gowther that was temporary imprisoned, the Seven Deadly Sins were oficially reformed. However, after defeating Melascula in Corand and battle Chandler, Meliodas was returned to his previous evil state as a result of his emotions have been taken by the Demon King in his resurrection. Meliodas, having decided to become the new Demon King to break his curse and that of Elizabeth, officially declares the dissolution of the Seven Deadly Sins.

The others, however, are not willing to accept it, so they decide to continue fighting against the Demon Clan and prevent Meliodas from becoming the Demon King.

With the exception of Ban, who goes to the Purgatory hoping to recover the emotions of Meliodas, the Seven Deadly Sins along with Liones allies with Stigma and the resurrected Four Archangels to wage a new Holy War.

After Meliodas absorbed all of the Commandments, the Demon King took possession of his body and engaged in a fierce fight against the Deadly Sins in an effort to kill Elizabeth. Ban, meanwhile, reunited with Meliodas in Purgatory, was able to escape to help his comrades, while Meliodas struggled from within against his father's influence. All together, they managed to expel the Commandments from Meliodas' body, which reverted back to how it was before.
