Biography

Ultimaton was one of a pair of male human clones created by Advanced Idea Mechanics where his twin brother was Fantomex. The purpose was to create engineered children that were progressively different but by curious luck the two children were exactly identical down to the atom. It was decided to dispose of one whilst the other was kept within the World research laboratory. (Giant-Size X-Men: Fantomex v1 #1) Within the care of Weapon Plus, he was modified to be part man and part machine where he was to be made into a genetic superman who was to kill Mutants. Ultimaton was thus artificially evolved into a Super-Sentinel to join a team of such Super-sapien soldiers. (New X-Men v1 #145)

Over the decades, Ultimaton remained within the research laboratory whilst his brother Fantomex made numerous attempts to free him. However, each time, he refused as he felt it was not time and instead continued within the World which was under his custody. (Giant-Size X-Men: Fantomex v1 #1)

was the latest living weapon created by Weapon Plus, the anti-mutant supersoldier program that created Captain America, Wolverine and Fantomex, and was designated by his creators as Weapon XV. Like Fantomex (Weapon XIII) and Huntsman, Ultimaton was born and was artificially "evolved" in The World, a man-made environment designed to create super-soldiers using Sentinel technology. Due to the time manipulation capabilities of the World facilities, Ultimaton was several generations more advanced than the preceding living weapons. He was created to be the powerhouse of the Super-Sentinels, a team of mutant hunters conceived by John Sublime as a publicity stunt to make the extermination of mutants acceptable to the public. Fantomex and Huntsman were intended to be his teammates, but Huntsman had been destroyed and Fantomex had gone rogue.

Ultimaton was released from the World when the facilities were attacked by agents of Advanced Idea Mechanics, who wanted to recoup the technology Weapon Plus had stolen from them. Ultimaton wiped out the attackers and later fought Wolverine while Fantomex and Cyclops escaped to the Super-Sentinels orbiting base, which was constructed in a remnant of Asteroid M. At this point, Ultimaton had begun to wonder about his purpose in life, questioning his fate of being a mutant-hunting killing machine. Fantomex, Wolverine and Cyclops followed Ultimaton to the space station, where Fantomex and Cyclops fought Weapon Plus agents. Wolverine denied Ultimaton's claims that he could have been a painter before destroying the space station. Wolverine later tells Jean about how he finished off Ultimaton right after the explosion, while it was contemplating the purpose of its own existence, and was not paying attention. (New X-Men v1 #148)

Despite his demise, he was seemingly shown to had been resurrected as the 'guardian of the World'. He was specifically guarding a special chamber in the World that apparently contains a child Apocalypse being grown in a cloning vat. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #7) The newborn clone was 857 days old and still in his gestation tank when the World was infiltrated by a Deathlok strain sent by Father. They had attempted to gain access to the main lab with X-Force moving to stop them. Fantomex had moved quickly to keep the nature of his hidden experiment a secret when he was ambushed by an alternate reality version of himself that was a Deathlok. The two were evenly matched until Ultimaton sensed Fantomex being in danger and went to assist by destroying the Deathlok copy. He was then sent back to guard the lab whilst Fantomex fought the other Deathloks until they were erased from the timeline when Deadpool had seemingly killed Father thus averting their timeline. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #5) Later on, Warren Worthington III came to be taken over by the Death Seed embedded in him making him take over the role of the planet's evolutionary caretaker from Apocalypse. He had attempted to bring about a judgment to the planet and nearly defeated X-Force in the process. A wounded Fantomex would later give the command for Ultimaton to release the clone Apocalypse Evan Sabahnur from his virtual reality simulation that had ended earlier before his development to maturity. Ultimaton would ask for Evan's aid and took him to his armor so he could go help in the battle. Evan in the role of Genesis fought the corrupted Dark Angel whilst Ultimaton helped stabilise the badly injured Fantomex. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #18) Archangel was ultimately defeated and killed where in the aftermath it was decided that Evan should join the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. With his duty completed, Ultimaton's new function became the role of support for X-Force. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #19)

After Fantomex's death, Ultimaton reverted to its primary function, which was killing mutants. He murdered Gateway and detonated, destroying Cavern-X. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #27)

Ultimaton was later revived in The World and under Fantomex's control once more. (Wolverine & the X-Men v2 #4)
