Velocity 9 was a special drug developed by Vandal Savage that was capable of imparting brief super-speed to a person. (The Flash v2 #12)

Savage began to distribute Velocity 9 to addicts who he forced to serve him and take part in thefts on his behalf. This resulted in the drug empire of local mobster Nick Bassaglia to be effected with the intention of taking over his operations. It was believed that this would have paved the way for mass prodction of Velocity 9 which would then replace drugs like coke or smack. (The Flash v2 #12)

In other media

Television

  • In The Flash, the Velocity serums appeared in the setting of the live-action television series set in the Arrowverse starting from the second season. The drug was initially developed by Harrison Wells of Earth-2 where it was a drug that temporarily allowed a person to access the Speed Force and give them super-speed. It was developed initially to help 'Jay Garrick' in his fight against the speedster supervillain known as Zoom. The first five incarnations of Velocity were a failure where afterwards 'Jay' began his own experiments in enhancing his speed. This resulted in increased speed but he suffered from cell degeneration as a result where he looked for new untainted sources of the Speed Force to stave off death. On Earth-1, Caitlin Snow worked with the Earth-2 Harrison Wells in creating more successful version of the drug using her expertise in biochemistry where she produced Velocity 6 to 9.
