History

The Mercs for Money were a team of superpowered mercenaries that operated on Earth and had been founded by Deadpool. (Deadpool v6 #3) Originally, he operated it under the name of the Heroes for Hire when that name was not in active use. (Deadpool v6 #1) Its origin was traced to when Deadpool learnt that Solo had masqueraded as him whilst on a job and piggybacked on the merc's success to take jobs at Deadpool's pay rate. Solo's impersonation helped Deadpool become more popular thus benefiting both mercenaries as a result. This inspired Wilson to create a franchise based on the use of his identity to profit all its members. (Deadpool v6 #7) After recruiting Solo, other vigilantes and mercenaries were chosen all of whom were to pattern themselves on the Deadpool persona as part of their costume. (Deadpool v6 #1) Shortly afterwards, Deadpool received a cease-and-desist letter from Luke Cage who was one of the co-founders of the original Heroes for Hire to prevent Wilson from using the name. (Deadpool v6 #2) As a result, Deadpool was legally forced to change the groups name where they came to be known as the Mercs for Money. (Deadpool v6 #3)
