When Ossem returned to his kingdom, he was captured by Balaal's forces who had instituted a coup that took over the city. Ossem was taken to an altar where he was intended to be sacrificed to Set to bring about the deity into the world. However, Neptune struck and destroyed the altar where his rage led to the death of the cultists. In fear, the Atlanteans scattered into the ocean with Ossem spending decades to unify them into a nation once more. In his old age, Ossem worried for his subjects but was dying and on his deathbed he begged Neptune to look after his people. His words touched Neptune's heart and he agreed to do so where he began to live among the Atlanteans in their now rebuilt city. He showed kindness and generosity to them with this leading to a Golden Age in the history of Atlantis with the Atlanteans adoring their god who they referred to as Father Neptune.   • In The Marvel Super Heroes, Neptune was referenced in the animated series episodes "Not All My Power Can Save Me!", "When Fails the Quest", and "The End of the Quest". He was called Father Neptune who was worshipped and revered by the Atlanteans. During Namors quest to restore his throne, he received guidance from Neptune who spoke through the various aquatic animals.
