- Lord of the Rings: c. 4292 BC (III 2770). Smaug destroys Erebor and Dale; Thror, Thorin II and Thrain II escape. (The Return of the King)

- Lord of the Rings: c. 4217 BC (III 2845). Sauron reclaims the last of the seven dwarven Rings of Power from Thrain II, who was captured by Sauron and imprisoned within Dol Guldur. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4212 BC (III 2850). Gandalf returns to Dol Guldur. He finds that not only is Sauron there, but he is also gathering the Rings of Power- including the One Ring- and is seeking out the heir of Isildur. Gandalf is given the Key of Erebor by Thrain II before the dwarf king dies. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4211 BC (III 2851). A meeting of the White Council is convened; Gandalf insists that they must attack Dol Guldur, but he is overriden by Saruman (who seeks the One Ring). Afterwards, Saruman begins searching for the One Ring, starting at the Gladden Fields. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4210 BC (III 2852). The White Tree follows Belecthor II, Steward of Gondor, into death. No seedlings of the Tree can be found- thus the dead White Tree is left standing. (The Return of the King)
