History
Origin
Earth (Japanese: 地ち球きゅう, Hepburn: Chikyū) was an inhabitable world located in the North Area (北エリア, Kita Eria) of the galaxy.
Many years ago, a young Saiyan named Kakarot came to be dispatched to Planet Earth by his father following the destruction of his homeworld of Planet Vegeta. The child would have followed his people's instincts that sought him to conquer the planet with his superior abilities but he was found by an elderly human named Gohan. Whilst taking in the child, the infant banged his head and came to forget the memories of his people. As such, he became an innocent child who was adopted by Gohan who named the boy Goku.
Dragon Ball
King Piccolo first made himself known to the world, he spawned several underlings and sent them to destroy a city and all its inhabitants. Outside that city was Mutaito's dojo, where Master Mutaito and his students trained. The underlings attacked the dojo, and in the aftermath, the monsters and all but two of the students were dead. These two students, Master Roshi and Master Shen, and Mutaito 'managed to live to fight another day and went their separate ways' until Mutaito's rematch with Piccolo, by which time most of Earth's population had been eradicated by the evil Namekian. In his final battle, Mutaito sealed Piccolo away with the Evil Containment Wave, after which the Earth returned to normal until Piccolo's brief resurgence as a villain in Age 753.
Dragon Ball Z
One day, Goku came to show his son Gohan to his friends on Master Roshi's island where during this time the planet was visited by his Saiyan brother Raditz. Raditz was among the few Saiyans that survived the destruction of their world and had come to Earth to conquer it. He had attempted to re-unite with his brother Kakarot and recruit him to the cause but was surprised to see his younger sibling had no memory of his origins. Ultimately, Piccolo would join Goku in fighting the greater threat when Raditz kidnapped Son Gohan. Goku would sacrifice his life to help kill Raditz but the existence of the Dragon Balls were revealed with this information being transmitted from the Saiyan's Scouter thus notifying Vegeta and Nappa about their existence. The other two Saiyans then decided to make their way to Earth in order to gain their wishes from the Dragon Balls. In preparation, the Z Warriors underwent training to increase their fighting skill to battle the coming Saiyans. Meanwhile, Goku was in the afterlife where he trained on King Kai's planet to make himself stronger whereupon he would be brought back to life to fight the Saiyans. Ultimately, the Z Warriors came to confront the Saiyans upon their arrival with the alien invaders unleashing the Saibamen. Once the Saibamen were defeated, Nappa himself entered into the fray where single handily killed many of the Z Warriors including Piccolo. By this point, a plan was made to resurrect Goku who arrived with only Krillin and Gohan being the only ones left from the battle. Goku through his training allowed him to defeat Nappa who came to be killed by Vegeta. Thus, the battle progressed continued between Goku and Vegeta in a long protracted fight. A frustrated Vegeta looked to achieve a decisive victory and used Saiyan technology to help bring about his transformation into a Oozaru. This was until Yajirobe helped sever Vegeta's tail thus reverting him back to his normal form. Ultimately, Vegeta was defeated when he was struck by a Spirit Bomb though he was still alive but badly injured. Krillin looked to end the threat posed by the Saiyan but Goku allowed Vegeta to escape in his pod back into space.

Overview
According to Whis, Earth was designated as Planet 4032-877.
It was orbited by a singular, luminous moon—though this satellite had been destroyed and restored multiple times due to key events involving Saiyan transformations. Earth’s surface was dotted with towering mountain ranges, deep forests, crystalline lakes, and sprawling cities that combined futuristic architecture with traditional Eastern aesthetics. Despite its varied geography, the planet retained a vibrant, colorful atmosphere that underscored the blend of advanced technology and mysticism woven into its fabric. From above, its spherical blue-and-green body shimmered with life and energy, a seemingly ordinary planet hiding extraordinary significance in the cosmos.
Locations on Earth included:
- Lookout :
Native species included:
- Humans (地球人 Chikyūjin) : The average Earthling is significantly weak when compared to other species. However, a select few Earthlings have learned to use ki and are among the strongest beings in the universe. Even with such abilities, this select group of Earthlings are still considerably weaker than many aliens with the same ki manipulation abilities.
Earth's geopolitical makeup in this reality was both global and fragmented. While it was governed under a unified global authority known as the World Government, regions often retained their own cultural identities, customs, and martial traditions. Cities such as West City and East City served as major technological hubs, while Papaya Island was known for hosting the World Martial Arts Tournament. Vast stretches of uninhabited wilderness were common, including regions like the Diablo Desert, Mount Paozu, and Karin Sanctuary, all of which housed powerful fighters, reclusive masters, or sacred artifacts. This sparse distribution of civilization enabled many of the series’ greatest martial artists to train in solitude, surrounded by nature or atop mystical towers that defied conventional geography.
Organisations that operated on Earth included:
- Capsule Corporation :
- Red Ribbon Army :
Similar to many worlds, the planet was an appointed protector who took the name of Guardian (神かみ様さま Kami-sama, lit. "God", "Deity", or "Divine being"). Despite their names, the Guardians' role is closer to that of an overseer, and they are not necessarily stronger than all those whom they oversee. They have many of the powers associated with gods, including the ability to see and sense events around the world, to travel to and guide souls to Other World, and to be a general protector of the people. They also are long-lived, though not immortal. Unlike more traditional gods, the role of Guardians is an office, which can be vacated and subsequently refilled by a mortal. Average citizens of Earth are unaware of the existence of these Guardians. It was shown that they possess godly ki allowing them to sense the godly ki of other deities.
Technologically, Earth in the Dragon Ball universe was highly advanced yet deeply spiritual, creating a juxtaposition of capsule-based technology—capable of compressing entire buildings into palm-sized devices—with ancient martial techniques and divine artifacts. Corporations such as Capsule Corp revolutionized transport and storage, while institutions like Kami’s Lookout and the Sacred Land of Korin functioned as spiritual nexuses, blending science fiction with divine hierarchy. Earth was home to both cybernetic beings and deities, demonstrating its role as a place where gods and mortals coexisted, often without fully understanding one another. The existence of Dragon Balls, which could grant nearly any wish, placed Earth at the center of many cosmic conflicts, drawing aliens, tyrants, and gods alike to its surface.
Cosmologically, Earth was located in Universe 7, one of twelve universes governed by powerful deities such as the Kaiōshin and Gods of Destruction. Yet despite its small size on the cosmic scale, Earth was disproportionately significant due to the presence of powerful warriors like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo. Their exploits repeatedly elevated Earth from an unremarkable world to a focal point of multiversal tournaments, divine judgment, and intergalactic warfare. Earth’s repeated destruction and restoration—by means of divine intervention or Dragon Ball wishes—demonstrated its pivotal status. Though fragile in the face of cosmic threats, its people, traditions, and heroes constantly reaffirmed its role as the heart of resistance, rebirth, and transformation in the Dragon Ball mythos.

Alternate Versions
- In Dragon Ball Z, an alternate future reality was shown where Dr. Gero's androids were first released. Both Android 17 and Android 18 defeated the Z Warriors and kill the majority of them with the exception of Son Gohan and Trunks. Gohan would ultimately be killed in one confrontation against the androids where he managed to destroy them. Meanwhile, Trunks looked to avoid this future and used his mothers newly created time machine to travel into the past to warn as well as prepare the Z Warriors for the danger. Unknown to him, the version of Cell from his timeline had awakened and used the time machine to travel into the past as well in order to absorb the androids to achieve his perfect form.
- In Dragon Ball GT, an alternate version of Earth appeared that depicted events decades after the Majin Buu Saga. Emperor Pilaf came to uncover the Black Star Dragon Balls which granted his vision that turned Goku back into a child. A consequence though was that these Dragon Balls were scattered across the universe and needed to be returned otherwise the planet would be destroyed. As a result, Goku alongside Trunks and Pan went off into space to recover the Black Star Dragon Balls.
- In Dragon Ball Super, Champa came to learn that the Earth of his native Universe 6 was a lifeless world having been destroyed by humans in an idiotic war amongst themselves.
