History

The First Robotech War was a conflict that occurred on Earth in the early 21st century. Its origin was traced to the SDF-1 that was the flagship of one of the Robotech Masters named Zor. Onboard the battle-fortress, Zor had hidden the Protoculture Matrix intending to take it away from his corrupt race who had used it only to attain power. The ship was set on a random course across the universe where it fell on Earth in 1999. Its arrival came at a time when mankind had engaged in a global conflict fight numerous nations fighting one another. The alien vessel saw humanity ending conflict as they sought to study the interstellar space craft. From the wreckage, the found the corpses of several giant alien warriors that they kept secret from the rest of the world. Further study of the vessel led to the discovery of a new advanced form of technology called Robotech. Over the next decade, humanity had united in the study of the alien craft and its technology. Around the crash site on Macross Island, the SDF-1 was slowly reconstructed over the years thus advancing the technology. Unknown to Earth, the Robotech Masters sought to reclaim their lost battle-fortress and the Protoculture Matrix with them dispatching their Zentraedi warriors.

By 2009, efforts to reconstruct had been completed with a large celebration being conducted to test the flight of the battle-fortress. In space, a Zentraedi fleet led by Commander Breetai had arrived in the solar system in pursuit of Zor's ship. They had detected the vessels presence on the systems third planet which was Earth and sent a scout ship to investigate it. Its approach was detected by the SDF-1 whereby hidden systems activated that forced the main gun to fire to destroy the approaching ship. This initiated hostilities with the Zentraedi fleet attacking the Earth's Robotech Defense Force ships. Though bringing some damage with their primitive weapons, the Zentraedi effortlessly destroyed the orbiting human ships. With orbital control established, drop ships were deployed to bring mecha to the surface to take the battle-fortress.

• The First Robotech was an adaptation of the Space War I from Superdimensional Fortress Macross.

• In Robotech: Battlecry, the First Robotech War were shown in the setting of the video game that was set in the Macross Saga. The player took control of ace pilot Jack Archer in the story mode who was on-board the SDF-1 and participated in the fighting against the Zentraedi and saw the conclusion of the war with the destruction of Dolza's fleet.
