Biography

Francine Frye

In time, she came to be obsessed with super villains as a form to escape from the real world. It was this that led to her becoming a regular accomplice of Electro. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #17) Afterwards, she came to see Electro seemingly working for Spider-Man but he eventually stopped and revealed that he had been seemingly controlled by the Wall-Crawler. Upon escaping, he fled to Francine's place in West Village where he took shelter whilst he was attempting to regain control of his powers that were unstable. Francine kissed him despite his warnings and Electro's powers ended up killing her much to Max's horror. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #2)

For months, she was dead until she was cloned by New U Technologies at the behest of the Jackal. He brought her back as a recipient of Electro's powers as Max Dillon wanted them removed with the Jackal intending to transfer them to Francine. Initially, the experiment did not work but it was discovered that her death had made her more receptive to the powers through direct bodily contact. Thus, she kissed Max and drained him of his powers until he seemingly died whereupon she became the new Electro who worked in the employ of the Jackal. Her first task was to deal with the Prowler who had broken into New U Technologies where she chased him outside and seemingly killed him despite her employers orders. Hobie Brown was then cloned by the Jackal where he became an unwilling operative of New U Technologies alongside Francine. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #17) Francine assisted Rhino in attacking Spider-Man when he infiltrated New U Technologies but both of them were defeated by the Wall-Crawler. (Clone Conspiracy v1 #1)

Following the Jackal's downfall, Francine embraced her circumstances and decided to become a super villain for the sake of destruction and money. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #26) She briefly became part of a new incarnation of the Sinister Six led by the villainous Iron Spider which attempted to steal a de-commissioned S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. (Spider-Man v2 #234) Their plan came to be thwarted by the new young Spider-Man alongside his allies among the Champions. (Spider-Man v2 #239) Electro then partnered with a group led by Boomerang and carried out a theft at the American Museum of Natural History, which was unbeknownst to Boomerang's partners on behalf of the Kingpin. After carrying out the heist and being surrounded by authorities, Boomerang handed over the loot to the Kingpin and fled, leaving Electro and his other partners behind. (Free Comic Book Day 2018 [Amazing Spider-Man/Guardians of the Galaxy] v1 #1)

She later decided to target the theatre performance of actor Melanie Daniels who she had intended to ransom for payment though came to find no one was paying for her release. Frye then decided to switch it to posting online asking people to put in money to kill Melanie where she received a large number of offers. Before she could do so, Melanie was saved by Mary Jane Watson who distracted the female Electro long enough for a water tank nearby to be broken thus splashing Francine with water and leading to her capture. She was taken in by the police where during transport the prison vehicle was attacked by a group of female supervillains who recruited Francine into their criminal venture. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #25) She was offered a place in Janice Lincoln's new Sinister Syndicate that sought to promote the actions for female supervillains. However, Francine had no desire to join the team until Janice told them that their target was Boomerang with Frye wanting to get revenge against her former teammate for betraying her. This led to the Syndicate attacking the site of the relaunched F.E.A.S.T. where Boomerang was in attendance. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #26) Similarly to Boomerang, the Syndicate's leader Beetle arranged with the Kingpin behind her partners' back to hand him over Boomerang. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #27) Despite their shared disgruntlement towards Beetle, the Syndicate agreed to help Boomerang evade arrest after he disclosed with them the secret reason the Kingpin was after him. As a result, all Syndicate members except Beetle were apprehended, but Beetle broke them out afterwards. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #28)

Overview

Personality and attributes

She was shown to have a number of tattoos on her arms. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #2) When she was cloned, she came to lose all her tattoos and piercings. After gaining powers, she began to wear a costume that was stylised on Electro's original suit. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #17)

Frye was said to had found the normal regular world to be boring and instead felt truly alive when in the world of superpowered beings. She had a fixation on supervillains who she felt were like superheroes but did not hold back. This led to her looking to collect supervillains and often sought them out. In fact, she had a desire to get powers herself and be a supervillain. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #17)

Francine was a big fan of the soap opera Secret Hospital that starred Mary Jane Watson until she had to step down from the role due to personal matters leading to her being replaced by Melanie Daniels. This sparked Frye hating Daniels who she found to be a bad actor and a poor replacement for Watson. (Amazing Spider-Man v5 #25)

Powers and abilities

Originally, Francine was an ordinary human being until her death and resurrection via cloning. The nature of her death had resulted in her new body being receptive to the electrical powers of Electro. She later came to take them from Max Dillon thus gaining his abilities as a result. This allowed her to discharge great amounts of electricity as attacks and she could channel it through conduits such as webbing against her foes. The simplest manifestation of her powers is the emission of a lightning-like electric arc from her fingertips, which could propagate through air or other conducting mediums. Frye also had the ability of flight allowing her to pursue her quarries. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #17)
