Biography

Gunmar was a male member of the Troll race who was born long ago when mankind and Trollkind came to encounter one another. This resulted in a period of warfare between the two as they both sought domination over the surface world. The brutality of the conflict led to numerous horrific deaths with the bloodshed corrupting the first Heartstone creating a rot within it. It was from this corruption that Gunmar was born who was a vicious Troll that sought to exterminate mankind and all his enemies with him bring a dark reign on the planet. After his emergence, he came upon the savage but disorganised Gumm-Gumm tribe where he battled their leader who was the warlord Orlagk. The fight between the two was fought over many days with Orlagk ultimately slain after his head was cut off whilst Gunmar himself lost an eye in the struggle. Afterwards, Gunmar came to be the new leader of the Gumm-Gumm tribe who were to form as an army under him to conquer the world. Among his first acts was to slay the king of the Quagawumps who came to be referred to as the Shattered King. At some point, the Gumm-Gumms were dispatched with abducting Troll offspring with one of the Krubera tribe being kidnapped leading to Aarghaumont being trained to be a brutal warrior and being a general in Gunmar's army. It was Gunmar's rise to power that led to the wizard Merlin crafting the Amulet of Daylight and creating the line of Trollhunters to defeat the Troll warlord.

After the troll and human worlds are separated, Gunmar led his army to conquer the world and destroy the human race. In the Dark Ages, Gunmar grew resentful of King Arthur for taking much of his territory and ransacking countless troll villages, despite his initial promise to never invade the Wild Wood. When the trolls imprisoned in Camelot escaped the castle, they sought shelter in the woods, until the Knights of the Round Table crossed the Killahead Bridge, the border between the kingdom and the woods, and kidnapped Gunmar's only son, Bular. While sparring with his general, AAARRRGGHH!!!, Gunmar receives word of these events, which enrages him and demands his general to tell the good trolls of Dwoza to join the Gumm-Gumms or kill them all in cold blood. Meanwhile, Gunmar is shocked when someone else has breached Camelot's defenses, whom he discovers was King Arthur's own half-sister/successor and Merlin's former apprentice, Morgana le Fay, whose dark magics has been empowered by the Arcane Order and now fights for magic's domination. Morgana promises to Gunmar that the Gumm-Gumms will have victory and shall bring forth the Eternal Night, which will permanently block out the sun, ensuring the trolls would live freely on the surface without fear of the sun turning them to stone. Morgana curses Gunmar's Decimaar Blade, which will allow him to turn any creature into a Gumm-Gumm to do him every whim and build his army. The Dwoza trolls captured General AAARRRGGHH!!! and, due to his ruthless ways and would kill them all without mercy, the good trolls ultimately choose to side with the humans and end Gunmar's reign of tyranny. Also, AAARRRGGHH!!! sees the error of his ways and betrays the Gumm-Gumms to begin a new path of non-violence. Gunmar was enraged that his top general defected from his army. This unleashed a battle between the Gumm-Gumms and the rest of the trolls, known as the Battle of Killahead Bridge. It ended when Deya the Deliverer, the first Trollhunter, defeated Gunmar, sealing him and his entire army into the Darklands. Meanwhile, Merlin manages to seal Morgana away, preventing her from unleashing the Eternal Night. Dictatious, Blinky's brother, was thought to be long-dead, but in reality, he got sealed into the Darklands as well, where he became Gunmar's advisor by choice.

Overview

Personality and attributes

Among his various titles included Gunmar the Black and Gunmar the Vicious with his followers referring to him as the Dark Underlord.

He has no control over his anger and kills his minions for their failure. For example, when one of his Gumm-Gumms begged for mercy, he brainwashed him into committing suicide by being devoured by a Nyalagroth. After one of his Gumm-Gumms fails to attack a semi-truck, Gunmar murders him without mercy.

Gunmar also comes off as sadistic, as he tortured Nomura for entertainment, and even forced her into a fight with the current Trollhunter, Jim Lake Jr., to make him break his will, which didn't work out too well because his friends arrived to save him and Nomura from the Darklands. He is also ungrateful because, in spite of the Janus Order conspiring to free him from the Darklands, he slaughtered them all without a second thought.

Powers and abilities

He was the wielder of the Decimaar Blade that was a large cursed weapon powered by dark magic. With it, he could take control of the minds of others that were touched by the sword with these being turned into extensions of Gunmar's will.
