History

The Trolls were an ancient hidden race that lived in the world where they had a quiet existence underground as their people were born from the Hearstone. This changed when they and humanity discovered one another leading to conflict between the two species for dominance over the surface. Such was the extent of the killings and deaths that it began to corrupt the Heartstone leading to it rot from within as this manifested to form a fearsome Troll named Gunmar.

Merlin was then responsible for creating the Amulet of Daylight that was gifted on special warriors that became known as Trollhunter. These were trained and gifted weapons that were to be used in the protection of Trollkind along with hunting evil members of the race.

This culminated in a legendary fight in the Battle of Killahead where the Trollhunter Deya the Deliverer managed to successfully defeat the Gumm-Gumms who were banished into the Darklands through the power of the Amulet of Daylight that sent the evil Trolls through the Bridge of Killahead.

Overview

In appearance, members of the Troll race were typically humanoid but came in a wide variety of forms and shapes with some possessing multiple limbs. A common characteristic was them being based on stone and they had a weakness to sunlight which burnt them as well as petrified their bodies. Trolls were shown to have long life spans where they could live for centuries allowing them to far outlive humans.

There were various species of Troll that included:

  • Changelings :
  • Stalklings : these were large winged reptilians that possessed scales and could operate in daytime who were so fearsome that few had survived an encounter with them.
  • Kruberas : a tribe of large Trolls that were native to the deep caverns underground and noted for their added sensitivity to light with these being led by a Queen.
  • Quagawumps :
  • Gumm-Gumms :

The highest authority within their civilization was a body consisting of the leaders of the various tribes who sat at the Tribunal. Orders from the Tribunal were considered binding and breaking of them were held as crimes against their people. They were he upholders of Troll Law that said that accused could not represent themselves in a trial and could only be defended by their own tribe. The Tribunal was able to give the death penalty for acts of treason or exile individuals to the Deep.

To Trolls, stones were said to contain power and that by chipping away at them it could uncover the hidden abilities within them. They found the concept of the human Periodical Table as amusing as it only touched upon a fraction of the various elements that existed in the world.

Each of the various hidden Troll settlements were connected to one another by a transportation network known as the Gyre. This consisted of tunnels that linked to a waystation that held a wheel shaped transportation vehicle. The machine was able to rapidly transport the driver and passenger between the various sites in a matter of minutes with this being noted as a turbulent journey for some travellers.

Another mystical tool in their possession were Anamnesis Stones that could create a mystical recreation of events that were recorded.
