Biography

Origin

The Weatherman in The Authority: Revolution v1 #9.

Henry Bendix

He grew up in Maladyville, Mississippi, raised by his abusive, alcoholic father. It appears that his father more than once killed a girlfriend during a drunken rage. (Monarchy v1 #5)

Even as a child, Henry was extremely intelligent, designing the bodily enhancements that eventually led to the creation of the superheroes Midnighter and Apollo while still a child. Henry's diary from this time would mention that he had been contacted by the alien Weavers, who showed him the future. Young Henry was shocked to find out that he would become a villain, but the Weavers told him that till then he could be a hero. Henry killed his father with a self-built energy weapon in order to save his father's girlfriend, Delia.

During the 1960s, he worked for the US government, developing a mobile weapon that was operated through a combination of manual controls and cybernetic uplink. It was dubbed the 'Think Tank'. He was recruited into Team One, a secret task force designed to deal with the emerging Daemonites threat as part of Operation: Wildstorm. Team One was dissolved following its first mission. The actual tank was destroyed by Daemonites which caused energy to surge into Bendix's brain. (Team One: StormWatch v1 #2)

The experience gave Bendix a lifelong interest in Earth's secret history. This fascination put him in contact with the villains known as the Four, and led him to discover the interdimensional realm known as the Bleed, among other things. Although he continued to work for the US government, he kept most of his funding for himself.

Around 10 years ago, he conceived of the idea of a group of superhumans that would help protect the world. This became Stormwatch where among those he attempted to recruit was Jenny Sparks but she refused as she had no interest in being a superhero anymore. (Stormwatch v1 #37)

After Flashpoint's betrayal, Bendix began to re-organise Stormwatch in order to make it more effective by creating several teams. For this, he also began to seek out new recruits for these other sub-teams with him once again approaching Jenny Sparks. He was able to successfully convince her to join Stormwatch where he made similar such overtures to Jack Hawksmoor and Rose Tatoo. (Stormwatch v1 #37)

Weatherman

After exploring The Bleed and gathering allies, Bendix returned to his world in 2004. Discovering that The Authority was now in charge of America, he devised a plan to remove them from power whilst, at the same time, breaking up the team. His plan was successful. Following that, he assumed control of the shattered Secret Monarchy, the loose coalition of secret groups that ran the world behind the scenes. He implemented an active post-human advancement agenda, facilitating integration of Kherubim and other otherworldly technology into American and to a lesser extent global society. In 2008, he faced off against the reorganized Authority. After a prolonged struggle, he was killed by Midnighter. (The Authority: Revolution v1 #12)

William's main goal was to crack his father's "memory tower," containing his most secret files. He managed to do this by uncovering a secret bunker in the Nevada desert, leading to a battle between The Authority and Stormwatch Prime for custody of it's contents. During the battle, an A.I. copy of Henry Bendix activated in response, and proceeded to release zombie-like clones of his secret Stormwatch team, seduce Rose Tattoo to his side yet again, and install itself in a younger cloned body which had been engineered with the powers and abilities of every superhuman present. William arrived at the scene and convinced Rose to kill the clone of his father, but not before he was seriously wounded by the reborn Henry Bendix. Although his body was not found by either of the teams after the resulting destruction of the bunker; the horrifically scarred William emerged from the wreckage, his father having psychically grafted his own consciousness onto William's mind. In control of his son's body, Bendix mused that the body was young and strong enough. (The Authority: Prime v1 #6)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of history was created with a different series of events. Henry Bendix

Bendix was said to had worked in partnership with the Gardener with the two being responsible for creating Midnighter. However, their partnership was said to had been terminated after he had crossed a line. He was later recruited by Amanda Waller to complete a project he had made in the past. (Midnighter v2 #9)

Overview

Personality and attributes

Whilst heading Stormwatch, he went by the codename of Weatherman. (Stormwatch v1 #2)

According to him, concepts such as love or freedom did not work to save the world. In fact, he found freedom simply to be an excuse for people to kill each other. Bendix claimed though that he would change the world where no one would die unless he decided their fate. He had said that he would change the world one body at a time if need be until people started controlling themselves. (Stormwatch v1 #50) As such, he considered himself to be the world's policeman and was not above killing people to achieve that goal. (Stormwatch v1 #37)

Powers and abilities

This awesome arsenal was the forefront of modern fighting technology. (Team One: StormWatch v1 #1)
