Kate Waynesboro

When she was a graduate student, she came to be familiar with the works of Dr. Bruce Banner which was required reading. (Incredible Hulk v1 #287)

She came to be assigned as the new research assistant of Bruce Banner. (Incredible Hulk v1 #287)

After World War Hulk, clean-up operations were conducted by S.H.I.E.L.D. who created a specialised unit to hunt down and arrest the Warbound who were the Hulk's close friends as well as fellow warriors. Dr. Waynesboro investigated the sewers beneath the city where she was nearly attacked by an alligator until she was saved by Korg. At first, she attempted to arrest the Warbound but was disarmed by the Sakaaran warriors. Kate came to see that they were in hiding but unable to move due to their comrades Elloe Kaifi injuries. A S.H.I.E.L.D. team came to arrest them when they were teleported away by a mysterious figure with Waynesboro accompanying the Warbound. Around this time, Hiroim was abducted with the perpetrator being the Leader who tapped into his Old Power to create a dome of gamma radiation to create Gamma World. (World War Hulk Aftersmash: Warbound v1 #1)

Once the barrier came down, S.H.I.E.L.D. warbots arrived at the scene with the Leader commandeering them and using them against the Warbound. Kate attempted to use a nanovirus to shut them down but later fell under the mental domination of the Leader. This was until he was speared by Elloe though this simply allowed him to channel the Old Power into himself thus making him immensely stronger. To stop him, Hiroim battled the Leader where the Shadow's physical body was destroyed and he eventually died but his Old Power passed to Kate Waynesboro. She was angry at the Leader for his part in Hiroim's death leading to the villain escaping from the scene. Afterwards, Kate stayed with the Warbound as she was accepted into their ranks and they worked to protect the area of Gammaworld from the various monsters that now inhabited it. (World War Hulk Aftersmash: Warbound v1 #5)
