Lucia von Bardas is a female comic supervillain who features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Lucia von Bardas was a female human born in the modern age where she was a citizen of the Kingdom of Latveria. (Secret War v1 #1) At one point, she was in the United States where she was a Professor at the University of Carolina with one of her students being Debbie Bertrand who she felt had great potential in her. Afterwards, Dr. Bardas came to return to her home country of Latveria. (Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury v1 #1) She eventually became the duly elected Prime Minister of her home country of Latveria through support from the United States government. It was believed that she had been mending relations between America and Latveria. (Secret War v1 #1)

Von Bardas remained in custody at S.H.I.E.L.D. until it was dismantled by Norman Osborn allowing her to escape. (Winter Soldier v1 #3)

With Doctor Doom abandoning Latveria, the country fell into infighting among various militia forces. It was during this time that Lucia von Bardas returned to the nation where she vowed to rebuild it under her rule. (Invincible Iron Man v3 #6) She was defeated by Iron Heart when the Tony Stark A.I. in her Iron Man Armour had Bardas's own force fields activated to apprehend her. Commander Sharon Carter led S.H.I.E.L.D. forces in apprehending Lucia von Bardas who vowed revenge against her captors. (Invincible Iron Man v3 #10) With the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D., Lucia was freed allowing her to return to Latveria where she began a new plot to take over the country. Aaron Davis and his supervillain criminal gang managed to capture a mothballed Helicarrier which they intended to sell to Lucia von Bardas. This brought her into conflict with Miles Morales and the Champions that sought to stop the villains. (Spider-Man v1 #239)

While at first her cybernetic implants were mostly external, currently she sports a more organic look, with only a cybernetic eye exposed. (Secret War v1 #4)

Within the Kingdom of Latveria, she came to hold the elected position of Prime Minister. (Secret War v1 #1)

  • Lucia von Bardas was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Gabriele Dell'Otto where she made her first appearance in Secret War v1 #1 (April, 2004).

Television

  • In Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes, Lucia von Bardas made a number of appearances in the animated television series where she was voiced by actor Venus Terzo.
  • In The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Lucia von Bardas made a couple of appearances as an antagonist in the animated series where she was voiced by actor Kristen Potter. The episode "Breakout" showed that she was a Latverian cyborg that worked for Doctor Doom and represented his interests during a weapon purchase with A.I.M. that sought the acquisition of Stark-based technology. This exchange was stopped by the arrival of Iron Man who incapacitated the A.I.M. agents and warned Lucia von Bardas to withdraw back to Latveria.

Video games

  • In Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, Lucia von Bardas appeared as an antagonist in the video game where she was voiced by actor Lani Minella. She was responsible for funding the Tinkerer's supplying of technology to supervillains. Nick Fury and the heroes confronted her in order to get her to surrender, but her castle ends up exploding due to the heroes defeating one of Tinkerer's superpowered machines. She later attacked New York as a deformed cyborg. When the heroes attack her on a ship, she starts to activate herself as a bomb taking Diamondback, Scorcher, Shocker, and Wizard along for the ride only to be defeated and deactivated by the heroes. In the PSP, Wii and PS2 versions however, she invades the New York streets directly. This eventually culminates in the superheroes following her to Times Square where she has planted a massive bomb. Upon the bomb's destruction, she collapses lamenting her failure to Latveria.
