Biography

Naomi McDuffie was a female human from another Earth within the Multiverse. Her Earth was similar to the Prime Universe one except for a few differences. After years of human environmental abuse, the Earth's ozone layer collapsed. Following the ozone layer's destruction, an undiscovered radiation leaked onto the Earth's surface which had previously been kept at bay. The radiation was responsible for imbuing 29 random people with god-like power across the planet. Some of these people intended to use their newfound power to rule the world with others looking to stop them. A civil war erupted between the two factions where after a month of conflict 14 of their number had been killed. In response, 7 more came to leave the planet in disgust leaving only 8 to stay behind on the ruined Earth where they forged a truce to prevent their world's complete destruction. By this point, the powered beings came to fin that none of them could procreate or have children until Naomi's mother miraculously gave birth to her. This saw one of the powered warlords named Zumbado looking to end Naomi's life to prove his own superiority amongst the others. To save their daughter, Naomia's parents gained the aid of a woman named Akira where they made preparation for their daughters escape. (Naomi v1 #5)

Her parents allies brought Naomi to the Prime Universe where she was discovered and adopted by Greg McDuffie along with his wife Jen McDuffie in the small town of Port Oswego. Naomi grew up not knowing anything about her childhood and grew up believing that she was an ordinary girl. (Naomi v1 #5)

Naomi lives an ordinary life in her hometown raised by Greg and his human wife, who knows about her husband's secrets, until Superman crashes through the center of town in a battle with Mongul. This prompts a couple of citizens to talk about the previous time the town had an encounter with otherworldly beings. Having learned that the date of the incident was also the day she was adopted, Naomi questions whether she has a connection to superheroes and begins looking into her origins. Greg then revealed his own origins to Naomi, before telling her about her arrival on Earth-0. He gives Naomi a device he found with her, which contains a message from her birth mother, and awakens her superpowers. Shortly afterward, Zumbado arrives and takes Naomi back to their original world, which has been devastated under his rule. Naomi fights Zumbado to avenge her birth parents, and only narrowly manages to escape back to Earth-0.

As soon as she gained her powers, Naomi flew back into town where she met up with Annabelle. While Naomi was telling Annabelle everything that had happened, a portal opened and a large man stepped through. The man told Naomi that he had used her newly-discovered powers to lock onto her location and that Akira had sent him to bring her back to their world. Eager to see her birth world, Naomi followed the man through the portal. Naomi was shocked to discover that her birth world had been almost completely ravaged. The man revealed to Naomi that he was Zumbado, and that her parents had died a long time ago. After sometime talking with Zumbado, Naomi attacked him, determined to claim vengeance for her parents' deaths. Although she was incredibly powerful, Naomi was no match for Zumbado's greater experience, and she was quickly overwhelmed. It was then that she met Akira who urged her to return to Prime Earth as this was her parents wish and said that she would make sure that Zumbado could not find her. She then pushed Naomi through the portal though Zumbado made an attempted to crossover again but McDuffie punched him back to his Earth. (Naomi v1 #6)

Immediately after facing Zumbado, Naomi headed to Metropolis, the home of Superman, seeking some kind of mentor-ship from the Man of Steel. Eventually she crash-landed in a hot-dog stand outside the Daily Planet building where she was discovered by Superman. Upon seeing Superman, Naomi asked the Man of Steel for help, to which he gladly accepted. (Action Comics v1 #1015) Naomi and Superman flew to the Hall of Justice where she filled him in on what she knew about her powers and the incident with Zumbado. The Wonder Twins, who were interning at the Hall of Justice, gave Naomi a medical check up in the hopes of discovering the origin of her powers. She was also questioned by Dr. Ray Palmer, who wished to know which Earth she originated from in the Multiverse, a question which she could not answer. (Action Comics v1 #1015)

She was with her friends when she was approached by the notorious leader of Kahndaq namely Black Adam. At first, Naomi was prepared to fight him but Superman intervened where it was revealed that Black Adam had not come to attack her but to learn more about her origins. This was because Kahndaq was briefly attacked by a being called Brutus who was a superpowered inhabitant from Naomi's world. She was then brought to the Hall of Justice alongside Black Adam as the superheroes investigated the matter. From Naomi, they came to learn a bit about her home world though she said she had never seen this figure known as Brutus before. Another incident emerged on Earth when Brutus returned to attack Themyscira and Central City leading to a fight with Amazon Queen Hippolyta. The Justice League then decided to take the battle to Brutus and the other villains of his world with Naomi being asked to lead the way. The Flash came to modify his Cosmic Treadmill to transport Naomi, Black Adam and Justice League to McDuffie's homworld. (Justice League v4 #60)
