Biography

Brian Dunlap

At some point, he became an operative for Factor Three who were a group of Mutants secretly led by the Mutant Master who had plotted to become the third major power in the world. (Thunderbolts v1 #33) The Ogre was present with the mutant members of Factor Three as they were detected by Professor X. (X-Men v1 #27) The Ogre located the secret headquarters of the X-Men, after which he chastised the Banshee who was forced via explosives in his headband to serve Factor Three for stealing some artwork and jeopardizing their mission which was to locate and abduct Professor X. He then used his Pyro-Projector to start a fire in some abandoned warehouses to cause a distraction so that none would notice their rocket capsule. After Banshee used his powers to stun Xavier and the X-Men in the room with him, the Ogre rushed in, scooped up Xavier, and rushed out. However, he was stopped by Marvel Girl Jean Grey who had been in another room. He held his own against her via his Repello-Rays, but the other X-Men recovered, arrived, and forced him back. Ogre summoned the Banshee to stun them again and he fled back to their capsule. A later assault by the Banshee failed as the X-Men had protected their ears, and he was captured. The Ogre attempted to kill the Banshee for his failure, but was stopped by Cyclops with his efforts to escape being foiled by the Mimic. (X-Men v1 #28) Escaping capture, the Ogre returned to Factor Three only to be chastised by the Mutant Master for his failure and instructed to wait at Factor Three's Mt. Charteris base until the Mutant Master could return to deal with him further. (Thunderbolts v1 #33)

The four mutant members of Factor Three briefly returned to Mt. Charteris base, where they treated the Ogre as a servant. Having stolen information from Professor Xavier's computers, they planned to track down and capture several mutants Xavier had yet to recruit. (Thunderbolts v1 #33) The Ogre accompanied the Vanisher when he ambushed Humus Sapien, placing a control helmet on him to inhibit his power. (Thunderbolts v1 #55) The Ogre spent the next few years studying Humus Sapien, challenging his power, pushing him ever harder, subjecting him to "unholy experimentation," until his powers became so great that he became a danger to all life on Earth. The Ogre eventually discovered that he drew his power by randomly draining the life force of a person on Earth. Upon learning of Humus Sapien's power they decided that he was too dangerous to control. The Ogre placed him in cryogenic suspension and vowed to protect the boy in the hopes of redeeming his role in having exacerbated his powers. He kept Humus Sapien's capsule hidden deep within one of the base's sub-basements, with files referring to it only as HS-1. (Thunderbolts v1 #55) The Ogre hid when the Sons of the Serpent took Mount Charteris as their base. The Ogre hid when HYDRA agents took Mount Charteris as their base. When the Ogre tried to make contact with these agents, they tried to kill him. His knowledge of the base allowed him to escape further injury or detection. The Ogre scavenged food, supplies, and technology from HYDRA. The Ogre hid while August Masters and his allies in the Secret Empire took Mount Charteris as their base. The Ogre scavenged food, supplies, and technology from Masters' group. The Ogre hid as SHIELD agents inspected Mt. Charteris after Masters' defeat and then sealed up the mountain. The Ogre hid when the Crimson Cowl Justine Hammer led her Masters of Evil to adopt Mt. Charteris as their base where he took an instant dislike to them. (Thunderbolts v1 #33)

Overview

Personality and attributes

He was quite capable of killing allies that had failed in the mission as he believed his employers did not tolerate failure. (X-Men v1 #28)

Powers and abilities

The Ogre was born an ordinary human being with no inherent special powers or abilities. By adulthood though, he was strong enough to deal powerful punches to knock out a foe. (X-Men v1 #28)

It was noted that he was not a Mutant where he instead used technology to simulate powers. A control panel was located on his chest allowing him to control the range of equipment in his suit. This included the power of flight through mechanical means with this being achieved through jet-equipped boots. These provided a high degree of manoeuvrability that he made use in battle. A trait of this also meant that beings with the power to copy superpowers were unable to duplicate the Ogre's flight mechanism due to the propello-boots being equipment. On his hands, he had equipped devices able to project repello-rays that were capable of firing rays of terrifying force. This consisted of double-barrelled wrist rays that he could use to target an enemy. He also had devices in his gloves that allowed him to communicate with his allies. He could also modify his equipment to acting as a homing device to track particular quarry. Factor Three also provided him with additional equipment such as one that allowed him to project intense light to blind his opponents. He could also install measures to help him combat the powers of particular foes such as special ear shields that made him immune to sonic attacks. (X-Men v1 #28)

He could arm himself with better weapons such as a rifle-shaped repello-ray. A simple adjustment to it could turn it into a deadly weapon capable of killing a target. (X-Men v1 #28)

The Ogre could place a special mechanical headband on people that allowed him to control them. Not only did it allow him to mentally dominate them but also he was capable of killing the person remotely through it. An anti-tampering mechanism was present within it that caused it to explode if someone tried to deactivate it. However, if the controls were damaged, the headband could be rendered inoperable. (X-Men v1 #28)

Through electronic means, he was capable of tracking the headquarters of his quarry. (X-Men v1 #28)

For a time, he came to be an operative of Factor Three who claimed to be the most dangerous secret organization on Earth. (X-Men v1 #28)
