Biography

Orka in Sub-Mariner v1 #23.

Orka was a male member of the blue-skinned race of Atlanteans where he was a citizen of Atlantis. (Sub-Mariner v1 #23)

He came to find himself within the armies of the warlord Krang where he served as a lowly lackey. After his master's exile, he took an Atlantean cruiser to meet him where he suggested that they use it as part of an attack against Namor. However, Krang dismissed his suggestion and instead sought to form an alliance with the barbarian warlord Attuma. To accomplish this, he needed wealth and began to pilfer it from the ocean's depths from sunken craft where the two encountered the undersea fortress of the scientist Lemuel Dorcas. The two then entered into an alliance where Dorcas offered to enhance Krang's soldiers and requested a test subject with the warlord making Orka take part in the experiment. (Sub-Mariner v1 #23)

Orka managed to get free but was defeated by Namor again. The Brand Corporation, subsidiary of Roxxon Oil, contacted Orka and augmented his abilities to not require a power-transferring machine and cause him to grow in size. He defeated the Avengers who had returned from another reality, but was himself defeated by Thor. (Avengers v1 #149) When the Atlantean barbarian Attuma takes over the city of Atlantis, Orka is pardoned from his exile and joins the Imperial Army. Part of an invasion force that attacks the surface world, Orka battles the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, but is defeated by heroine She-Hulk and the Black Panther and imprisoned. (Avengers Annual v1 #18) Later, Orka was among those villains recruited by the self-proclaimed Master of the World in his attempt to overthrow the United Nations, only to be captured by the Heroes for Hire team. (Heroes for Hire v1 #4)

During the Civil War, Misty Knight was tasked with heading a team of heroes that looked to stop superhuman related crimes. This saw her assembling a new incarnation of the Heroes for Hire that included former villains among their ranks that was an opportunity for them to redeem themselves. Orka was among those that joined the team where he participated in a sting operation against supervillain criminals. (Heroes for Hire v2 #1)

Orka came to attack the surface world where he struck at the New York Harbor only to be confronted and defeated by the Regent. The seeming superhero after defeating the Atlantean took him to be imprisoned at the Cellar where he placed him in a hidden cell to have Orka's powers beamed to his Regent suit. (Amazing Spider-Man v4 #13)

As Namor declared a state of hostilities against the surface, he gathered a band of Atlantean warriors to aid him with Orka joining the ranks of the Defenders of the Deep. (Avengers v8 #9)
